The Advancement of Cloud Computing

Cloud computing and storage are increasing in popularity

By Finnegan PiersonPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

Cloud computing and cloud storage are increasing in popularity, and, with that increased exposure, more research and development are going toward improving the technology behind cloud computing even further. Cloud computing is inherently a simple concept, even if it can be difficult to convey to the layperson. However, it is also a concept rich with nuance that can be tricky to wrap your mind around. Here are some major points about how cloud computing has changed and will continue to change.

Cloud Computing Can Be Inaccessible

Cloud computing and cloud storage are not monolithic. There are a variety of platforms that offer these services. Some examples are Amazon Web Services, or AWS, and Google Cloud, but there are many others. This is great news on paper, because it provides cloud computing and storage services to a much larger audience, but it also creates what many see as an unnecessary barrier to entry. Each of the platforms has its own unique design quirks that can make migrating from one platform to another, or using multiple at once, trickier than it needs to be. Typically, this won’t affect the average consumer in any major way; the issue is more prevalent for developers testing software on multiple platforms. Likewise, software developers have taken it upon themselves to find workarounds for these issues. Third party software can allow the user to access the cloud in different ways, using any of several programming languages, that can allow them to make the experience more user friendly for this kind of kubernetes multi cloud testing. Said software enables a bevvy of options when dealing with cloud computing and cloud storage, and it can be incredibly useful to someone with coding experience and knowledge of cloud computing.

Cloud Computing Will Continue To Evolve

Cloud computing is currently in the process of transforming the business landscape, but it won’t stop there. Technology generally trends toward advancement and solving more and more problems as new innovations are made, and cloud computing is no different. If anything, advancements in cloud computing are more appealing than advancements in other technology because of the ways in which it has already vastly improved our ability to coordinate tasks. Cloud computing is also being used for various other applications that may surprise you, and with so much corporate interest in this technology, there is a demand for improvement.

How Cloud Computing and Cloud Storage Can Work For You

There is a lot of potential in this technology, but, by its very nature, it primarily benefits companies and teams of developers. However, cloud computing and storage can still benefit the average consumer in a few notable ways. Some companies are using it to enhance their products and services for the consumer, for starters, and it opens the door for services based on cloud computing, such as Google’s cloud gaming service, Stadia. More importantly, cloud computing can help compensate for older, less powerful computers when taking on more demanding tasks, such as gaming and streaming. Cloud storage is more immediately valuable to average consumers, however, as it simply expands your storage far beyond what your computer would ordinarily be capable of, especially if it’s an older or more cost effective machine. Cloud storage, like any other form of external storage, also has the added benefit of offering you a backup of your files. However, this comes with the downside of not knowing with certainty that those files will persist, though it seems likely that successful cloud storage platforms are here to stay. Likewise, cloud storage allows for easy sharing of files with friends, family members, or members of a group, all of which have immediate value to most people.

Cloud computing has firmly settled in the “way of the future” paradigm once associated with quantum computing, which is currently inaccessible to the masses. As such, cloud computing will almost certainly come to change the way we interface with computers, and potentially many other devices, although it remains to be seen how much use the average person will be able to get out of this technological marvel. Only time will tell.
