Miracle at the MacNab Transit Terminal. Top Story - November 2025.
There are stories that you hear and disbelieve because you think that you live in a very rational or at least sensible world. There are stories that make you question what you are doing with your own life. And then there are the stories that come out of my hometown.

Riding the REM - Part II?
I am a convert. On the weekend of November 15th to the 16th, I took the extended free ride on the REM (Réseau express métropolitain) in Quebec, but this was not the original plan. I had heard rumours that the original transit strike with the STM (Société de transport de Montréal) was winding down (this latter system runs exclusively on the island of Montréal). This was a relief, since the entire local system was going to be shut down for those two days. But, with a little elbow grease and some promises made to be broken, everything began to function again (as well as it could in a city like this). I wanted to see what the fuss was about.

We Are Done
The strike is over: long exhale; happier thoughts. And who do we blame? * Note: I just learned in the middle of teaching a class that the STM (Société de transport de Montréal) ended their strike (well, the maintenance workers, at least). Things might shut down on the weekend, but all digits are crossed that this will be the new norm.

For Belle's 'On the Street' Challenge: Report of Pilot, Captain Y. M. Raughtel: This might be my final report. I seem to have landed in the most barren patch of nothing imaginable. There is nothing but desert as far as the mind can conceive. And I think that my mind is losing its ability to see and hear what is real and what I've only imagined. Am I really alone out here?

A Discovery in a Bus Shelter. Top Story - November 2025.
I met my first publisher at a bus stop. Yes, I am as busy with the challenges as any of you out there in Vocalland. I have also had more contracts added to my teaching schedule, papers marked and to come on the docket, and I think I may have beaten back a slight cold that set up shop at the back of my head and on my chest. I know that I should rest and restore myself to better shape so that I can keep tapping out these pieces. But I feel compelled to talk about a man who changed my plans for my literary career, especially since I did not think I had one.

Should a Canadian Write about London?
Dear London, I owe you an apology. I think I had better explain myself. I was sent to visit relatives there in the summer of 1988. I was fourteen and a serious pain in the neck, but I was in good company. I remember that from the ride from airport to the flat that I would be staying in, I heard nothing but complaints. My very West Indian relatives pointed out how difficult it was to get ahead due to their race and class, even pointing out different buildings and places where they recalled insults and proved that they had a point. Later that same night, the relative I was staying with would get into a shouting match with a drunk in the street who was slapping a woman around (fortunately, this was from a balcony several stories up in the East End). Plaistow had its charms.

Waxing for all the Waning
Dear Lunar Neighbour, Pick a shape, and stick with it! Signed, all Earthlings... * Note: I know that a haiku for this Challenge might seem rather odd, but I think that the best notes to neighbours and the like should be brief, and I have also just hit the right word count, so there.
