A Useful Mistake
Sometimes Mistakes Can Bring Us Benefits (In This Case My CD player)

Introduction
First of all this should be in the 01 Vocal community, but there is no way I can write six hundred words about this, well, I probably could, but it would not be in my laconic nature, although this long-winded introduction shows that I can talk for ages without saying anything.
So What Was My Useful Mistake?
On Friday I put in an old burned Kraftwerk CD, and normally a CD lasts for up to eighty minutes; this one didn't, it seemed to just go on and on and on.
It turns out that my CD player can play MP3 CDs, and I had been unaware of it. I knew it could play CDs (which was what I bought it for), plus it can connect to Bluetooth and play FM radio as well. So the MP3 was an unexpected bonus.
Much of the music and sound was stuff that I didn't really know, apart from "Kommetenmelodie" and a live take on "Autobahn", as well as some Wendy Carlos, but there was a bit of jumping, and eventually after it being in my player for two days I decided to bin it, as it was unlikely I could recover anything from the disc and I probably have it on my server anyway.

I then thought I could probably burn CDs of artists I had on my server. I usually rip my CDs there and sometimes download them if the physical versions are a lot more expensive than the digital version (I then burn an audio CD from the download). I was not sure how I would do it but the,n saw there was an MP3 button on my burning software.
The first artist I chose was Joni Mitchell, and that burned successfully and has been playing all day, and I have included "Carey" from her album "Blue" (which everyone should have), and as yet, the sound is absolutely fine.
The main problem is that you don't know the order of the songs or have the ability to playlist them, but I am ok with that. The MP3 CD takes a little longer to start up than an audio CD, but again, that is not an issue for me. So at the moment I am listening to Radio Joni Mitchell, with no adverts like you would get on the various streaming options.
I have Amazon Music, but it will not let me play my own music, even the music I have bought from Amazon, so I only use that for downloading MP3 purchases, and the bloatware of iTunes was ditched a long time ago.
The second artist I chose was Leonard Cohen, but his work will take more than one MP3 CD, but you can see the one I burned, and the one playing is the Joni Mitchell one.
I now see that I can put lots of combinations together, and it will be interesting to see how the player deals with them, and I do like listening to the music that I choose myself, although often that means I don't discover as much new music as I should.
Conclusion
I said I didn't think I could write six hundred words on this subject, but, as usual, I was wrong, and now I am wondering whether it should be in 01 (technology) or Beat (music).
I am veering towards Beat because it is about listening to music.
Radio Joni Mitchell is playing and maybe afet dinner Radio Leonard Cohen will get a play and then I will revert to audio CDs, but I am glad I have this option now.
Thank you for reading and I hope that you have found something interesting here.

I hadn't thought about MP3 taking less space on a CD & so allowing for more music. Interesting.
You always at times have such interesting and fun dilemmas for your writing and Beat is the place for this one. Good job.
