He may be a comedian but he has great voice.

Though Comedian Eddie Murphy has string of comedy specials and films, Murphy had a string of a somewhat music career. Over the years, he released both comedy albums (with songs) and more serious musical albums, mostly in the R&B / funk / pop / reggae genres. Some he lend his singing vocals in films he starred in. However, music critics weren't fond of Murphy's tune and he should stick with his comedy career.

Before fame, Murphy had done background vocals; music was always part of his artistic expressions. While he was filming 48 Hrs, Murphy sang background vocals for the film's soundtrack.

48 Hours (1982)

In Coming to America, while Murphy was portraying multiple characters, Murphy portray Randy Watson, the lead singer of his band Sexual Chocolate singing the cover song of Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All".

Murphy was signed with Columbia Records. After he was signed, comedians and fans of Eddie Murphy had doubts about Eddie Murphy starting a music career. When he was already a huge star (with Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, etc.), he debuted his album How Could It Be. How Could It Be released in September 1985.

How Could It Be (1985)

The album was a moderate commercial success, making it to No. 26 on the Billboard 200 and No. 17 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Two singles were released: "Party All the Time", which made it to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the title track, which became a minor R&B hit. This studio album was recorded as part of fulfilling a $100,000 bet that Richard Pryor had made with Eddie Murphy that he could not sing.

His second album So Happy was a mixture of funk and soul effort with often humorous sexual lyrics, it was co-written and co-produced by Murphy with several high-profile contemporary musicians, such as Nile Rodgers and Larry Blackmon. So Happy was released on August 1989.

So Happy (1989)

It reached number 70 on Billboard magazine's Top Pop Albums and number 22 on the Top Black Albums chart. The pop-funk song "Put Your Mouth on Me" was released as the album's lead single, performing well on both Billboard's pop and black singles charts.

His last album from Columbia, Love's Alright was released on February 23, 1993.

Love's Alright (1993)

Two singles were released: "Whatzupwitu", whose music video is patterned after the album cover and features Michael Jackson, and "I Was a King", featuring Shabba Ranks. His album received negative reviews and disses from Murphy fans. It was a critical and commercial failure, only making it to number 80 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

I am not going to lie people would say this song is "corny" but this song is the BEST CORNY SONG EVER!!!!!

While he was filming the Shrek films, Murphy as Donkey lend his singing vocals in Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek 3 and Shrek Forever After.

In 1996 and 2000, Murphy lent his singing voice in his two films: The Nutty Professor and The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps.

Murphy was cast as Jimmy "Thunder" Early in the musical adaptation Dreamgirls. Though his performance received critical acclaim, his performance as Jimmy earned him an Oscar nomination and an Golden Globe win for Supporting Actor Motion Picture.

In 2013, Murphy independently released his first single "Red Light" featuring rapper Snoop Lion aka Snoop Dogg.

He has released more songs however it hasn't made the Billboard charts than "Party All the Time". Murphy revealed in an interview that he is still doing music but we are not sure if he will be releasing music any time soon. Though he hasn't released any music this year, his song Party All The Time gained a legacy of remixes and covers. In 2006, house DJ and producer Sharam Tayebi of Deep Dish released a remix of the song, known simply as "PATT" (an acronym for "Party All the Time") which peaked at No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart on December 30, 2006 and at No. 4 on the Polish Airplay Chart in early 2007. The song also peaked at number 87 on the Australian ARIA Charts. Years after, actress Gwyneth Paltrow cover Eddie Murphy's song on Fox's musical drama Glee.

In 2023, American boy band Big Time Rush released their version of the song titled "I Just Want To (Party All the Time)" for their album Another Life.

I knew he had a great voice, but I pretty much ignored this part of his career. I want him to make me laugh.
