CANCER PATIENT CUT OFF The Government Tried To Tell A 59-Year-Old Dallas Woman With Cancer She Wasn't A US Citizen To Cut Off Her Benefits
Is this just the beginning?
For Ramona Rakestraw, the government incompetence is real. This is the impending death knell for Foundational Black Americans (FBA). While Hispanics continue to be rounded up by the authorities like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), blacks keep on keeping on by making themselves known to their government that they’re citizens, too.
Ramona received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) which had been cut off because records showed that she had been an immigrant. In a news clip, it reflected how she had never been out of the country, not even out of her state, or county.
The snafu at the Social Security office may be a tiny leak in what is about to happen for FBA. If a woman of color is supposed to bring her Social Security number and birth certificate to her local office, she should be rewarded not damned for her actions.
As they requested, the office took in her paperwork and found her to still be an immigrant. As her sole source of income, she has to depend on the government to satisfy her utilities and other costs. While she is filing for an appeal, it could take days even weeks for her to receive a response. Additionally, that could be a no again.
To consider just how tainted the system is, look no further than Ramona. This is the scary storm developing that might target FBA in a few years, or months. There should be no Social Security benefits, but as the law stands, there should be payouts. It is a complete negation of all the principles this country stands on for almost two hundred and fifty years.
It is hard to even think of a time where no Social Security even existed. But decades passed before it became a thing by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. So, for Ramona to have to suffer the foolishness of the government’s imbecility, that is the real crime.
All she wanted to do was to live her lower middle class life and have some sense of dignity after paying into the system. She won’t get back all the money she pumped into the process, but she still deserves to get the money she placed in the Social Security pyramid scheme. It should not be a series of fiery hoops for her to jump through and she should receive back pay for her troubles.
While no mention of lawyers arose in the conversation, she might want to seek legal counsel, nevertheless. If there is going to be a time when FBA gets rounded out or dragged from homes and cars, then that would be a severe blight on the lives of black folks. It’s bad enough Latinos must suffer through their issues, but they probably were immigrants in the first place. Ramona never even left from her birth state. She had never been outside of the country for thirty years.
What could have been a case of just checking on a claim turned into a nightmare for Ramona. Her resilience is admirable. She has taken it upon herself to be staunch in her position as a worthy recipient of the deposit. This disgraceful display must go on in other sectors of the nation as well. It may be a common occurrence for Social Security offices to deny benefits to American citizens who have paid into the scheme.
The way forward is for Social Security offices to ensure they’re paying the right people who actually deserve what the government sucked out of their checks for so many years. Ramona ought to hold her head up high and know she’s going to get the money.
