Choose your own character

For the life of me, I couldn’t remember how many of us hooked up with each other at that hot tub party at Amber’s last month, and that was probably where I picked up whatever bug this was. It was inconvenient and uncomfortable as hell, but you pay your money and you take your choice. Win some, lose some. Peaks and valleys, man. I wondered if I had time to duck out to my car and hit my pen before they called me back. Probably not. Good thing I popped that gummy before I left my pad.

It’s all a bunch of numbers, any way you slice it. My dick was doing a number on me because of some hot little number who had my number when I was jamming out one of my favorite numbers on my bass, maybe something that went to number one. Not everyone gets to be number one before their number’s up.

I dozed in my chair for a bit, just zoned out behind my shades while I waited to hear my name. There was some late seventies easy listening on their PA. Christopher Cross, “Sailing.” Good zone out tune. It played all the way through, then an old Simon and Garfunkel song came on. They were feeling groovy when a guy with a clipboard opened the door and called my name.

I'm a weirdo nerd who’s extremely subversive. I like rocks, incense, and all kinds of witchy stuff. Intrusive rhyme bothers me.

This guy seems different from the guy in the original story. Is that intentional?
