A poor man was married to a beautiful woman, and they were very happy together, never quarreling. The husband loved his wife deeply, and she loved him just as much. However, their happiness was threatened by a rich and handsome neighbor who, upon seeing the woman, fell in love with her and decided he wanted to marry her. Every day, while the husband was away working in the fields, the rich man would visit the woman and tell her that her clothes were old and that if her husband truly loved her, he would buy her beautiful new clothes. He would encourage her to divorce her husband and marry him, promising her lavish clothes and luxury.

At first, the woman ignored him, but his daily visits and persistent comments began to make her doubt her husband's love. She finally confronted her husband, asking for new clothes. The husband, who loved her dearly, smiled and told her she didn’t need them because she was already the most beautiful woman to him. But she insisted, so he spent his limited money and bought her a new dress, which made her very happy.

When the rich man came by again, she proudly showed him the new dress, which frustrated him. He told her that a true husband would give her more than just clothes—he would give her gold. He displayed some beautiful gold jewelry and said he could offer her more if she left her husband and married him. The woman refused, insisting that she loved her husband and they were happy, but the rich man kept coming, showing her the jewelry daily.

Eventually, the woman started to believe that maybe her husband didn't love her as much as the rich man claimed to. One evening, when her husband came home tired and hungry, she accused him of not loving her because he hadn't bought her gold. Worried, the husband decided he needed to get gold for her, even though he had spent his money on the dress. He asked his brother for a loan, agreeing to work in his brother’s difficult field in exchange. The brother agreed, and the husband labored hard, moving stones and earning enough to buy gold jewelry.

The wife was overjoyed when she received the gold. But the rich man was still not satisfied. He came by and claimed that true love could perform miracles, and that he could make miracles happen for her. The woman, confused, asked for proof, but he said she would need to leave her husband for him to show her miracles. The next day, her husband, feeling desperate to keep her, prayed to God for help. A wizard appeared and gave him two sticks, explaining that touching someone with the first stick would turn them into a donkey, and touching them with the second would turn them back into a human. The husband accepted the sticks and rushed home.

He demonstrated the miracle to his wife, turning her into a donkey and then back into a woman. She was amazed and asked how he did it. He told her it was through God’s help. He then revealed that the rich man was his enemy, who had tried to take her away. The wife, ashamed, admitted that she had been influenced by the rich man’s words, but she reassured her husband that she wanted to stay with him.

The husband then gave her the first stick and instructed her to touch the rich man with it. The next day, when the rich man came to visit, she did as instructed, and he turned into a donkey. She took the donkey to the field where her husband was working, and it helped him with his tasks. For years, the donkey worked hard for the poor man, who prospered and became wealthy.

One day, when the donkey was old and tired, the husband touched it with the second stick, turning the rich man back into a man. The rich man, now old and weak, was chastised by the poor man and warned never to interfere in others’ lives again. He left and never returned. The poor man and his wife continued to live happily ever after.
