Children’s Day is celebrated on 14 November every year, this day is the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.

Nehru was very fond of kids, he believed that it is our responsibility to nurture children with the utmost love, care and affection and assist them to become good human beings as they’re the future of our nation. He was often known as Chacha Nehru, since his death within the 12 months 1964, November 14 is being celebrated as Children’s Day, it is a way to remember the love towards him and the children.

A grand celebration in schools: Children’s Day requires a special celebration every year. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in various schools and colleges across India.

Special events are organized and students are encouraged to participate wholeheartedly in these programs. School management and teachers take it as their responsibility to organize these events and ensure that everything is well organized. Our school celebrates Children’s Day with great enthusiasm every year, the entire school is decorated with flowers, paintings and balloons. Our teachers work hard to decorate every classroom, hall and other parts of the school. Students are requested to arrange various drawing, collage and craft items that are used for decoration. We especially look forward to this day as it is filled with many fun activities, our teachers start preparing us for different demonstrations about a month before the event. Some of the special activities of Children’s Day celebrations in our schools are as follows.

CHILDREN DAY SPEECH:

Celebration begins with a speech by our chief, this speech is very encouraging and inspiring. A lot of our teachers also come ahead to present speeches on this present day, they share their childhood experiences including those schools, which they cherish until date. They also share how they are trying to nourish their students well, it is great to hear their experiences. They also talks about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and his love for children.

DANCE PERFORMANCES:

Many dances are performed for the Children’s Day program. Students from various classes perform group dances. Many students also perform solo dance performances, this is the most interesting part of the event. I especially enjoy the dance performances on the latest dance tracks.

SINGING COMPETITIONS:

This competitions are also organized to add color to the singing competition program. Our music teachers try a lot to prepare the students for this competition, it is a treat to listen to the sweet voices of our fellow students.

PAINTING COMPETITION:

Painting competition is an essential part of Children’s Day, Children use their creativity and come up with different types of pictures. By the end of the day a winner is announced between all of them. I love painting and make it a point to participate in a painting competition every year, although I have never won a prize for it.

DEBATES AND QUIZ CONTESTS:

Debates and quiz competitions are also held for the enjoyment of the day. Students work hard to prepare for these competitions and give their best shot to win the same.

PUPPET SHOW / MAGIC SHOW:

To make this event more fun, our school organizes a puppet show or magic show each year. We eagerly await these shows, these shows are organized by the students after the performance, and students as well as teachers also enjoy these programs equally.

BREAK FROM ROUTINE:

Children’s Day is a day dedicated exclusively to students, this is our day and we are made to make this day feel special. Our teachers come up with various innovative ideas to make this day exceptionally good for us.

We are especially looking forward to this day as it provides a much needed break from our worldly school routine. We come dressed in casual clothes and hardly a class is organized on this day. Also, we mostly spend an hour with our class teacher in their respective classes, before the Children’s Day event begins. However, it is unlike other classroom sessions, our teachers talk to us about our interests, hobbies and ambitions.

This is an interactive session where we get to know more about our teachers and fellow students. The session is conducted to strengthen the student-teacher bond.
