A White Dress and Chocolate Frosting
Cami and Tasha
Ring… Ring… Ring… Ring… Ring… Ring… "Hey you've reached Cami! You know what to do." Beep.
"Camilla, it's your mother. Kyle told us you called off the wedding and your father and I are worried about you. Do you just have cold feet? We really do not want to have to cancel everything. You know we are not worried about the deposits, but your father's coworkers and the CEO were planning on attending. And it would reflect poorly on the family to cancel. Well, anywho, give me a call when you get this Camilla. Maybe we can have you and Kyle over to sort it all out. Love you bunches, Au revoir!"
"End of new messages. To save press four. To delete press sev…" a high heel covered in rhinestones flew from the bedroom into the living room hitting the phone off the table and onto the floor.
"NO MOTHER!! IT IS NOT COLD FEET AND WE CANNOT JUST SORT IT OUT!!" Cami screamed from the bedroom. A matching high heel came flying out again knocking over a vase that shattered once it hit the ground. "HE SHATTERED EVERYTHING WE EVER HAD, JUST LIKE THAT STUPID VASE!" She wailed.
Keys jangled outside of the apartment door as it slowly opened. "Knock, knock, I am coming in Cami because you won't answer your phone and I know you haven't left this apartment in like four days." A pregnant woman carrying quite a few shopping bags walked in and the door shut behind her. She turned around to see the whole apartment in disarray. "Oh. This is worse than I thought."
She waddled over to set the shopping bags on the counter. She turned around and sighed as she looked at the chaos. "But it's okay, I can work with this. Easy fix. Now where are you hiding Cami?"
"I AM NOT HERE!"
"Okay, disgruntled voice coming from the bedroom. But I think hiding out in your bedroom is better than being on the bathroom floor or in your bathtub, so you are already doing better than I thought." the woman said as she moved to the bedroom doorway. "I stand corrected."
Cami sat up from underneath tissues and fast-food wrappers while wearing a white dress covered in chocolate frosting.
"So, you have just been hiding in your bedroom, lying on the floor crying and watching TV in your wedding dress, and shoving your face with your wedding cake?" She questioned.
"No." Cami whined. "It's just regular chocolate cake from the store." Cami plopped back down. "And it's not my wedding dress because I am not having a wedding because Kyle and I are not getting married. It is just a regular white dress with no special occasion attached."
"Wow. When you are depressed, you sure use the word regular a lot." the woman joked. "And your parents are not going to be happy the dress they got you is covered in chocolate." She pushed the tissues and wrappers off the edge of the bed and sat down.
"My mom doesn't even care. All they care about is not losing face."
"Have you even told your mom that Kyle is a two timing dirtbag?" The woman inquired.
"It's not like it would matter, Tasha. She thinks everything can be fixed by ignoring it." Cami groaned as she rolled around on the floor. "My whole childhood, if my dad would mess up, she would just put on a happy face and pretend nothing ever happened. Marriage isn't about being happy for her; it is about social standing. And she pushed for a marriage with he who shall not be named because it was going to benefit my dad and hopefully get him a promotion. Which means more shopping and fancy dinner parties for her. That is all she cares about."
"First of all, Kyle is not Lord Voldemort, he is just a jerkwad with a rich daddy. So, forget about him. I mean his name is Kyle for crying out loud. That name screams tool. And second, your mom isn't some evil entity either. She wants you to be taken care of, that's all. It's just different personalities and values." Tasha stood up and started collecting all the tissues to throw away.
"Just go away!" Cami yanked a blanket from her bed down to the floor and hid under it. "I don't need you."
"Girl, we both know that's a lie." Tasha said with sass. "Now are you really going to make a pregnant woman clean up your whole apartment?"
"You don't get to play the pregnant card when I just had to call off my wedding." Cami mumbled from underneath the blanket.
"You didn't love him, heck I don't even know if you even liked him. We both know you just agreed to this arrangement to make your parents happy. And now you are off the hook… so get up and stop being so dang dramatic." Tasha walked over to Cami and yanked the blanket away.
"Hey!"
"Hey now get up."
Cami groaned and she began to sit up. She stood up as wrappers that were tucked into her dress fell to the floor. "You are literally the worst best friend in the history of best friends."
"Thank you!" Tasha walked out of the bedroom and went to pick up the phone that was knocked on the floor. She walked back into Cami's room and handed off the phone to Cami. "Here. Now go call your mom and explain everything. I think she will surprise you and be understanding."
"Do I have to?" Cami threw a little tantrum.
"Yes. You do." Tasha stated as she walked out and began cleaning the living room and kitchen.
Cami looked down at the phone for a few moments before dialing. She raised the phone to her ear as it rang. She heard the call connect as her mother answered. "Hey mom! It's Camilla. Do you have time to talk?"
