Bloody Dark
The Living Death
"You gotta see this interview," Jill Koening says to her producer. "It's going to change everything. Probably."
"If this is another cat adoption story, I'm going to flip my lid, Jill," her producer replies. "Go on."
"You won't regret it." Jill puts in the tape and her cameraman cuts the lights. The video plays.
"This is Jill Koening for KLTV news at 9. In Washington Park tonight, Susan and Trevor Derry were almost the victims of a brutal assault they say was thwarted by a superhero. Could you describe what you witnessed tonight, sir?"
"I can try," the man says in a thick english accent. "We were walking in the park, a well-lighted area, mind you, when a group of men, maybe five or so, jumped out from the shadows and accosted my wife and I. They grabbed her and pulled her behind that loo and knocked me down.'
"Go on," Jill gently prods the man.
"My wife is screaming so, I crawl towards her, when out of nowhere, one of the men flies past me, hitting a tree so hard, his bones crack. I freeze. I mean what could have done that? But I realize, the other men don't know it happened. They're still trying to hurt my wife. I can hear them. Then another flies past me, same result. Now, they know something is wrong. They run right at me. The slowest disappear. Like they were ripped out of the back of a plane. The last one stops and pulls a gun, starts screaming nonsense. Then a large shadow appears behind him and he knows it's there. He runs again but can't escape. Whatever it was, it just Appeared out of The Bloody Dark."
"The Bloody Dark," the chief says. "I think we have a name. Run it!"
