Ebb and Flow

"Whatever you decide to do in this moment, Valdis, I understand and support you."

Those words did not make this any easier, as I stood there frozen by indecision. My heart, soul and mind were locked in a impossible conflict. What would be the right choice in this moment? There had to be one right choice... but I could not determine what it was.

"I... I know... You're always supporting me, even when I've messed everything up... I still don't understand how you can stand behind me and trust me... after everything..."

"It's easy... I love you. You didn't ask to be the bearer of this torch, Valdis. But you are. I know whatever you decide, it will come from your core... that is where your answer lies... that is where your purest love exists..."

Liv always had a way with words, they were the most beautiful person I had ever met in my entire lifetime. They loved unconditionally, without any expectation of return. In a world filled with murky morals and agendas, Liv's intentions were those of absolute good, no matter what. Even now... knowing everything could change by my decision, they still did not waiver. They did not allow possible pain or loss to sway their absolute faith that I'd choose right.

"If you were in my shoes, Liv, what would you choose to do in this moment?"

I attempted to manipulate Liv for guidance to my hesitation, hoping they would make the decision easier on me. I knew Liv would not fall for my half-assed attempt to avoid this choice.

"Valdis, I cannot give you that answer because I am not the one whom has to make this determination... but you know that already. All I can offer to you is my unwavering faith in your ability to make the right choice in this difficult situation... and my eternal promise to always love you no matter what."

"I knew you wouldn't fall for my attempt to get you to make this choice for me, Liv, but I had to try. I just... this... this isn't what I wanted... I never wanted this burden... I know that I trained for this day... this moment... but..."

"I know, Valdis... even when you are conditioned for something, it doesn't mean it will be easy when that moment finally arrives and you have to choose."

"No, Liv... it doesn't..."

As my words faded I knew what had to be done, and why it was so difficult. Despite all of the evil, neutrals and lawfuls in this world, I had only met one absolutely good soul... Liv. My love for this one could not override my responsibility to the Universe.

"I love you, Liv..."

I whispered as I threw myself into the fiery inferno of the volcano, causing a massive explosion to erupt from it's core setting off a chain reaction of destruction across the planet. I was the final judgement of humanity... they failed... now I brought their death and annihilation.
