"Into the Unknown"
A curious teenager discovers an ancient room that time forgot...
Ever since Maya moved into her grandfather’s house, one room remained untouched — the attic with the locked iron door. Every night, she heard strange whispers, like chants echoing from a forgotten world.
One stormy evening, lightning struck, and the door creaked open by itself.
Inside, the air was thick and golden, as if dust particles danced in slow motion. Ancient clocks ticked backward. A journal lay open on a floating desk, and it read:
"You’re the next guardian. Enter time, or time enters you."
Maya stepped further in, and the door shut behind her.
She was no longer in her house.
Instead, she stood in a mirror-world of the attic — older, dimmer, and endless. Her reflection blinked before she did. Every step took her deeper into twisted hallways and broken timelines. She saw future versions of herself: one thriving, one broken, one unknown.
She screamed… but no sound came out.
And then, silence.
Only the whispers remained:
"Choose the right time… before time chooses you."

It was one of those rare late March days in the Deep South, which came on with a surprising vengeance. Already the roads, houses, and cars were covered with the fine pinkish dust more typical of June or July, after temperatures had climbed into the nineties for the ten days past. A bead of sweat rolled down Caitlyn’s nose as she slowed her car. She stopped at the intersection. A strand of limp gold hair had escaped from her scrunchie. She pushed the strands behind her ear, barely sparing a thought for the motion.
