Maiden Ra

A Microfiction

By simplicityPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Ra created a birth unlike any. As he passed through the underworld he met three sisters, the maizey sisters. The father sent the girls out each day to cultivate and then sell maize. The father sold the best of his harvest. He saved the next best for himself. The unsellable were given to the girls and deducted from the wages. The girls stole to avoid being charged. The father suspecting someone was stealing put molded rotten corn in the pile. The girls ate this corn. All three died from food poisoning.

Ra took pity on the sisters. He took the essence of each sister, adding it to a kernal of maize fruit. He then added a drop of his blood. He carried the kernel out of the underworld, releasing it to earth. This birthed a baby girl. Since she was alone, Ra protected her. The sister's could be present in the girl's life as long as they helped spy on apophis and reported to Ra.

She became the Maiden Ra. When she was old enough, she assisted with the passage of Ra each day. Having the essence of the three sisters allowed her to communicate with them, as well as Ra. She may look like a lonely girl, but she was not.

A by product of her power, was she unintentionally drained others in the underworld. She was considered the Maiden Reaper to the underworld. The sisters, realizing they were never going to be drained and will forever remain in the underworld started to resent the child.

Her powers became more encompassing with time. Any item containing maize could be used and manipulated by her. Eventually she could possess any item made with corn, including humans. Extending, to products with fructose corn syrup. So, she was everywhere in the USA.
