Marine Corps Stories: Authenticity
A Marine on a film set calls out some points in the shooting script.
The director yelled, “Cut!” “What’s the problem, now?” Dickinson McTon asked.
Sergeant Major Emily Tremblay said on the set.
“The Marines don’t say ‘sarge’.”
“It’s in the script.”
“It can be amended, no? I mean actors adlib. They can refrain from saying a word and saying it in full.”
“You’re the technician. That’s why you’re getting six figures. You would know this stuff.”
“Cut! What is it this time?”
“Marines don’t say ‘EGA’ They say Eagle, Globe and Anchor.”
“Alright, do you want to direct? You are slicing up my screenplay.”
“If you want authenticity, this is the only way.”

His eyes had grown sore. Breaks between looking at screens helped, but the rawness kept coming back to Felton Sheltham. He went to the restroom to wash his face. Tiny drops allowed some relief. Like little gushes of rain falling on dry land, they alleviated him to a great extent. In the hallway, he met up with one of his subordinates. The Window
Candlelight dances along the walls, glinting off the polished cutlery in soft, deliberate flashes. At the centre of the table, roses rest in a crystal vase, the flame splintering through its cut grooves and catching in the diamond pattern so it glitters with every flicker. A crisp white tablecloth lies smooth and uncreased beneath it all. Two plates sit opposite one another, each bearing a carefully plated, restaurant-quality meal — composed, precise, waiting.

Goodbye, Mr. Duvall
It is turning out to be an interesting year. I was in the middle of teaching a class when a pop-up appeared on the screen announcing the death of Mr. Robert Seldon Duvall (yes, that was his full name).
