A TV has been left on in an abandoned storefront window. The following commercial plays for an audience of foraging raccoons.

“Tired of growing old?”

An actress wearing exaggerated old age makeup looks into the camera and frowns.

“What if I told you there was a way to stop the aging process?”

The actress nods, grinning excitedly.

“Introducing Dying Young! Just listen to this satisfied customer.”

“While working on my PhD, I just didn’t have enough time to focus on my appearance. Thank you, Dying Young!”

The camera pans down to a casket containing a beautiful woman in her thirties.

  • Morbid yet tantalizing. Great job Leslie!!!

  • Leslie, this is DARK, but the best part of this satire is this is the only way to not get wrinkles!

Love the satire here in your short piece! Great ideas!!

  • This is what I've been telling people! They say I'm morbid and crazy! I love the way you think!

Just when I was still trying to make up my mind about this challenge a piece like this jumps out and hits me for a six! BRILLIANT!

This is so eerie! The foraging raccoons part is so good- I love the visual you created with them, setting the weird, haunting scene in front of the abandoned storefront!

  • Nice one ❤️😉

Why raccoons? Fun read. But the subject you raised is no fun at all. I would say that PhD students are one of the most susceptible to depression and hence suiside thoughts group of people. And I think it's not about appearences or wrinkles. But anyways, quite enjoyed your story. Sarcastic, topical and as they say visually striking
