Take Aim, Steady, Fire!

Can you guess my sign?

By Ayiana FloodPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

Whenever I hear someone speak about my sun sign, I always hear the same things: we are optimistic, lucky, love to travel, are non-committal and players when it comes to relationships.

Without skipping ahead to get the answer, based on what you’ve read so far, guess my sign. If you guessed Aquarius, you were wrong. I am a Sagittarius. Yes, like Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Jamie Fox, DJ Khaled, Miley Cyrus, and Tyra banks –just to name a few. Sag gang, as I always say.

Even though Sagittarians are often described with the same textbook characteristics (which bore me), I must admit that some of those traits are accurate. I always try to stay upbeat and optimistic wherever I go because everything is better when positive energy is brought into it. You know what they say, “You receive the energy that you put out.”

We don’t like being bored, so yes, we Sagittarians love to travel because we strongly dislike routine. I actually have a Taurus moon, which is the most routine-based sign of the zodiac, so sometimes my sun and moon signs have to have serious conversations, but we all work it out.

When it comes to commitment in relationships, Sagittarians will commit to someone, but only if they meet our high standards. Don’t think that we are only holding our potential partner to high standards, we hold ourselves to very high standards as well, resulting in daily struggles with perfectionism and finishing what we’ve started. We are very picky when it comes to choosing our life partner, and when we commit, we put our all into the relationship, one hundred percent. And because we are very loyal and giving people (especially in romantic relationships) we tend to get taken advantage of. It is for these very reasons that we are seen as the non-committal sign. Personally, ever since I was really young, I knew what I wanted in a partner and that’s what I focused on when it came to manifesting my dream partner. Just two years ago, on February 23, 2019, I met my fiancée, who is actually my first relationship ever (and my last). Like I said, very picky. Also, to touch on how Sagittarians get mistreated: in the past, I have been taken advantage of, pushed aside, and abused by people I called my friends, and even by my own parents. I had to do a lot of therapy and healing in order to work through that trauma, and I am still working through it. Life is a constant healing and learning journey. On the other hand, us being very generous generates good karma, and that’s always a reward. Lucky us. (Shoutout Jupiter!)

Some other facts that may or may not be known to others is that Sagittarians have a long list of ideologies. Because we have this list of strong opinions and beliefs about how certain things are supposed to be, we come off as preachy and stubborn. For example, the stereotype that men are supposed to come home from work and women are supposed to have the house cleaned and a meal cooked, even after she has been at work all day too doesn’t sit well with a Sagittarius (especially women). We value equality and balance in all aspects of life, and we expect to get all of the good energy and support that we put into someone back equally. A fun fact is that in tarot, the major arcana for Sagittarius is the ‘Temperance card’, which means balance, peace, harmonious relationships, and things of that nature.

If you ever need some sense talked into you, straight up with no beating around the bush, talk to a Sagittarius. We tend to not hold back when it comes to the truth, and we communicate it bluntly. Sometimes we are purposefully blunt because that’s what needs to be said, and sometimes we are obliviously blunt and end up unintentionally hurting feelings. Usually, the ones who end up with hurt feelings are water signs or people with a lot of water placements in their birth chart (no shade intended, it’s just true). Personally, I find that I am unable to stay friends with water signs for long, especially Cancers. It’s no surprise though because if you look at it elementally, fire is the complete opposite of water. Typically, fire signs get along best with other fire signs and air signs, and water signs get along best with other water signs and earth signs.

Sagittarians are knowledge and truth seekers. We love to learn, and it doesn’t matter what the subject is, we want to know about it, learn about it, experience it, and then go share it and teach it to others. This is also one of the reasons that we value our freedom. We want to be able to go and gain knowledge and experience new things without being held back or feeling caged in anyway. Also, being able to be ourselves and freely express ourselves means everything to Sagittarians. I, unfortunately, experienced being caged, metaphorically speaking, all throughout my childhood. My father is a pastor, and he was very strict and controlling. Growing up, I pretty much had to do whatever he said or face consequences, and I wasn’t allowed to go out anywhere with my friends. I would have to hang out with my friends behind his back with my mother and brother’s help. Anyway, to keep things on the upside… When I saw the opportunity to escape my parents’ house, I took it, ran and never looked back. All of those experiences made me stronger, they showed me first-hand what not to be like as a parent and as a person. Being around all of that evil energy taught me how to love just as extremely. I’m proud of all of the things that I’ve powered and grown through, and I’m proud to be a Sagittarius. Sag gang!
