9 Burning Questions We Want Answered In Season 4 of 'Yellowjackets'

Showtime's hit series answered or debunked some longstanding theories, but we still have some hot questions we want answered in season 4

'Yellowjackets' (Showtime)

Yellowjackets is Showtime's latest thriller that still has all of us invested in the high school soccer team that was on their way to nationals when their private plane crashed. The show focuses not only on the survivors of the crash and how they navigated 17 months in the wilderness, but it focuses on specific survivors as they became adults.

The show returned for its third season this past February and it definitely had a lot to live up to. Season 1 of Yellowjackets took us on a wild ride with a lot of twists, turns, and surprises and viewers had some burning questions they wanted answered with a second and third season. But even with all of the information we got, and some lackluster reviews, season 3 has now come and gone with its own brand of mystery, surprises, and twists.

Yellowjackets fell victim to the Writer's Guild of America strike and the show's continuation was delayed until 2025, so that could be to blame for the way the third season fell off course a bit. But as it stands, Showtime has renewed Yellowjackets for a fourth season and we have these burning questions going into future episodes.

How long until Hannah dies?

Image via Marie Claire

With the entire nature explorer storyline that introduced Hannah, Edwin, and Kodiak, we learned a few things. We not only learned that the Yellowjackets are stranded close enough to civilization to be reached in just a few days on foot, but we learned that the weird forest noises were just frogs. One thing we haven't learned yet is how long Hannah will survive with the team.

In the present timeline, we got confirmation that Hannah does indeed die at some point, but we don't know exactly how long it takes or how she dies. Now that the team's rescue seems pretty imminent, only time will tell how long Shauna and the remaining survivors decide to keep her around.

How much longer does it take for them to actually get rescued?

Along with the question of how long it takes for Hannah to die, season 3 also left us wondering exactly how much time they have left in the wilderness. The team has already been confronted with potential rescue and it was quickly destroyed by Lottie killing Edwin. Now that Natalie has officially reached the outside world and called for help, how long until they are rescued? Will another attempt be made that is thwarted or once crews arrive will they actually come home?

Why exactly do the adults hate Misty?

Image via Variety

From the start of the series, the adult survivors made it abundantly clear that they didn't want anything to do with Misty. In the beginning of the series, it was almost setup to make viewers think it's because Misty destroyed the black box of the plane and was just a bit eccentric overall and stayed this way into adulthood. However, as the show has gone on, that doesn't seem to be the whole truth.

The end of season 3 showed Natalie finding out the truth about the black box and using it for spare parts to fix Hannah's satellite phone. With Natalie finding out the truth, Misty gets roped into the situation to distract Shauna and the survivors from noticing that Natalie runs off to try and call for help. Seeing how it was also revealed that adult Shauna misses her power as the Antler Queen and wants to bring it all back... is that actually why they hate Misty? The more the show goes on, the more realistic it is to believe that they hated Misty because, in the end, she helped them get rescued.

Will the Antler Queen always be Shauna?

Image via Entertainment Weekly

Season 3 answered a long-standing Yellowjackets mystery of who exactly the Antler Queen was. While many assumed it was Lottie, the revelation of the figure being Shauna was somewhat of a surprise. However, seeing that the group leader hasn't stayed the same their entire time in the wilderness, is the Antler Queen always Shauna?

Initially, the group had Natalie as their "queen" before moving onto Shauna, so it's possible that another person could morph into the Antler Queen before their rescue.

What happened to Akilah?

Image via ComicBook

Akilah's fate at the end of season 3 is perhaps one of the biggest cliffhangers we were left with. The season took us through Akilah being somewhat used by Lottie and Travis for her so-called cave premonitions, but in the end it became clear that all Akilah wanted was to come home. We last saw Akilah standing behind Lottie at the caves but we didn't see her again during the finale. Is Akilah still alive or did she also meet her fate during the pit girl hunt?

Where is Crystal/Kristen?

Image via Hollywood Life

Following her apparent death in season 2, we haven't heard much mention of Crystal/Kristen. Despite Misty pushing her off the cliff, her body basically disappeared and we never really got confirmation of her death. It's assumed by the Yellowjackets and by viewers that she is dead, but her body's location is still unknown. Was she eaten by an animal? Did someone drag her body away from the bottom of the cliff? Did she survive and has been hiding where Javi and Ben were hiding?

What will happen with Jeff and Callie?

Image via Screen Rant

One of the biggest questions of season 3 was "who killed Lottie?" When it was revealed that Callie was the true murderer and not Shauna, it was a big plot shift for viewers. Lottie gave Callie a lot of information that Callie had been wanting and after being presumed that she was the spirit of the wilderness baby that Shauna lost, Lottie was pushed down the stairs to her death.

Despite Callie being found out by Misty and admitting what she did to Jeff, there really weren't any consequences or any form of a resolution. At least not yet. The only consequence came for Shauna when her husband and daughter decide to leave her. The question is... how long will they be able to stay away from Shauna?

What is going on with Walter?

Image via Slash Film

After two seasons of strange behavior and an odd fascination with Misty, it's hard to deny at this point that something nefarious is up with Walter. He was far more involved in season 2 and really the only time we saw him in season 3 was when he partnered up with Shauna to compete with Misty in Lottie's murder mystery, and even then we only saw him sulking in the season 3 finale after being left (again) by Misty.

So... what is his deal? Will we learn more about exactly who Walter is and why he even came into the picture? Not only that but is he the one who was stalking Shauna throughout season 3? There are some fan theories floating around that Walter is somehow connected to Melissa, so it will be interesting if that is true or not.

What does the symbol mean?

Image via Nerdist

Perhaps the earliest and most longstanding mystery of Yellowjackets is the symbol. We've seen the symbol pop up in various places throughout all three seasons so far and the symbol was already in the wilderness when the team's plane crashed. The symbol was also front and center in the season 3 finale, but we still have not gotten any confirmation or even a hint as to where this symbol came from. Once and for all, what does this symbol mean?! Who carved it into the trees? What does it mean? Is it a symbol of the wilderness itself or some supernatural entity?

I'm really into Yellowjackets. Season 3 had its moments, but I get why some had issues. The strike might've messed things up. I'm curious how long Hannah will last. And when will they finally get rescued? It's been a while in that wilderness. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds in season 4.
