Imagine attending a school for the daughters/sons of your favorite fairytale characters. A school called Ever After High where students follow their parent’s destiny and become the next generation of fairytale characters. An example would be Snow White and Evil Queen, where their children will have to become the next Snow White and Evil Queen.

Not going to lie, as soon as I found a show that has something to do with magical fairytale characters, I am immediately hooked. Cause fairytale characters? Come on, who wouldn’t want to get into a show like that? Especially when our story plot begins when one of the characters didn’t want to fulfill their destiny as a fairytale character, and this shocks everybody in the school. But what makes it more interesting is the fact that it’s Raven Queen, daughter of the Evil Queen. She’d rather live like a normal person and write her destiny. She doesn’t want to be evil nor does she want to hurt anybody the way her mother did towards the other characters. You can see Raven affected by this in the first episode when everybody cowers away from Raven just because she's the daughter of the Evil Queen. You can see how she tries her best to act with kindness towards others not because she won't stray away from her destiny, but because she knows it's the right thing to do and it's her choice.

The one person who feels affected by this act the most is Apple White, daughter of Snow White. Throughout the series, you feel this slight “mean girl” attitude but it’s more like she’s passive-aggressive towards Raven because, without Raven, she can’t be Snow White. So she does whatever she can to get Raven to feel evil enough to fulfill her destiny.
But this doesn’t happen because Raven starts a movement called Rebel. Where she rebels against her destiny and chooses her destiny. I think it’s that moral you try to teach your kids, where you don’t need to be a beautiful princess to be good. You chose to be good because you write your story type of deal. Which I think is a great message.

The show is run by a big toy company called Mattel and they were going to a crossover between Monster High and Ever After High. Which wouldn’t be an interesting crossover. Seeing Ever After High is more light and dreamy, whereas, Monster High is more dark and gloomy. The show personally has so much potential until parents complained about the dolls being too detailed and fashion-based. That’s when the show’s dropped.

A lot of fans including me were sad to see this go. This is one of those series you feel like could’ve gone somewhere. The show even had this slogan:

And it does make you question, will you follow society’s norm? Or will you create your norm and follow your destiny?
I’ve always like storylines where it makes the audience question: what’s good? What’s evil?
And the storyline doesn’t base itself on just the one who started it all (Raven Queen); it also touches upon characters such a Red Riding Hood’s daughter Cerise Hood. Who carries a secret as to why she wears her hood on all the time. Spoiler Alert: Her mother married the wolf so Cerise is now half-human, half-wolf.
Ever After High is a cartoon that isn’t going to show too much potential of a big build-up story plot. But it is a show that appeals to the eyes and has creative words that relate to our modern-day world. Instead of using phones, they use mirrors as a way to contact and connect to what they call, “The mirror net”. But that isn’t just the reason why I love this show.
When you want to express yourself you express yourself through your clothing. The way you dress shows character and what kind of person you are or like to portray to others. You can see each character’s outfits go with their destinies as the next generations of fairytale characters. The show incorporates specific color schemes to each character so well that you feel like you’re in this royal core aesthetic look. If these outfits were a real thing, I would wear them on occasions where I’d want to feel like I’m a fairytale character wanting to write a destiny of my own.

The show impacts absolutely nobody. I don’t feel like there’s an extreme story plot to the show as well. But I felt like it could’ve had a potential if Mattel didn’t shut the story down. It is just a show I go to relax on when I’m folding my laundry and wanting to watch something that makes me feel complete like I’m not in a world that is so serious. Kind of like a hopeful cartoon that can distract me from the negativity in the world with something light.
