The Twisted Mr. Bendy is a screenplay I am writing. I came up with the idea back in 2016. Stephen King talked about picturing putting bread crumbs in a strainer. The rest will seep out but the big substantial stuff stays, much like an idea. The good stuff stays. Well, I wrote forty pages back then and it was overly complicated and the rest of my screenwriting class could not make heads or tails of it. Fine. I honed my craft and restarted it a few days ago I am up to page 13 with none of the old stuff saved. All that remains are three character names and she sees a hypnotist clown. Everything else is new.
Kill your darlings and the god stuff stays ring true while writing this draft. I am more focused and the story makes more sense. Keep it simple and focus on characters. Act and react. Also, write for the middle. The middle of a horror story is when we either believe the ghost is real or the main cast can be picked off one by one in a slasher film.
If the movie is Child's Play, the midpoint is where Karen discovers that Chucky is really alive. If the film is Halloween it is where Annie is killed. Now, there is also investigation. That is where the protagonist is trying to figure out what is happening during the film. Usually that comes right after the midpoint. In The Conjuring, it is where Ed and Lorraine are investigating the Perron family's home.
In The Exorcist, it is where Chris is talking to the doctors and then talks to Karras. This is not to be confused with police investigations kicked off by the crimes. This investigation is conducted by Detective Kinderman in The Exorcist and Detective Norris in Child's Play. this is triggered by the crime and not the investigation plot point. This plot point is triggered by the protagonist wanting to figure out what is going on.
Obviously, in The Twisted Mr. Bendy, Kate is trying to figure out what is happening to her and why she is having hallucinations. She also obviously wants to figure out a way to stop the hallucinations. The conflict is already there and it is interesting to see how it will all play out.
I even created certain characters on Character AI and my character Kate Green has gotten 93 chats. This coming from a character that the initial draft someone said ''they hated my character'' I took it as a compliment to see how popular the simulated character has become.
The AI has become a great tool to help me know certain characters' motivations. And even going against things they say or do that I know does not fit the character in my mind. I have received help knowing how to develop the characters by quirks I see in the AI.
Seeing the characters and getting to the characters and seeing that people care enough to interact with the characters. And subconsciously, seeing AI generated versions or if it is a picture of a real actor, it feels more real and feels more worth pursing getting the first draft done at the very least.
I have even created other AI characters and plan on rewriting a better and more focused script. The title character is Marnie Miller, and I initially had her dating someone but an AI chat revealed the fact that she was single and found better story ideas with that fact.
I even intend on creating more characters and hope it will help me further my writing career to heights never before seen.
