Supergirl’s journey across the cosmos continues! Her hunt to bring the killer Krem to justice brings her and the young alien in her care to a small planet, where they discover that there are still some very small minds, even on the outer edges of the galaxy. The cold welcome the locals give the Woman of Steel makes her suspicious enough to go looking for secrets they want to keep buried, and what she finds is nothing short of horrifying. Can she and Ruthye get off the planet alive now that these deadly sins have been exposed?
I am absolutely loving the way that this book is being told.. This is the Sueprgirl series we’ve been craving since before the Crisis originally happened, yes from 1985. Love him or hate him Tom is one of today’s most interesting writers. This story has started off almost innocently enough and is turning into one of those life-changing powerful stories that will forever change how Kara sees the world around her. Yes i said world even though it would seem the universe around her would be more appropriate but it’s really wherever her purview is at that moment in time.
I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented is exceptionally done. The character development we see through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter continues to flesh out their personalities spectacularly well. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages pulling us deeper and deeper into the universe and how hominid behaviour seems to be universal in nature is infinitely fascinating.
I greatly appreciate the way that this is being structured and how the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen. What we see in these layers is disturbing and fascinating and the fact that we see her use her super breath is beyond amazing to me. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is impeccably achieved.
The interiors here are mindbogglingly gorgeous to me. The throwback hairstyle is phenomenal, it reminds me of something out of the 1930’s and I think it suits her so incredibly well considering how often the original used to change up her looks. The linework is exquisite and how we see the varying weights and techniques that we see and how they create the detail work we see throughout the book is utterly marvellous. That backgrounds are being utilised to enhance and expand the moments as well as how they work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story is magnificently rendered. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a rather remarkable eye for storytelling. The colour work is brilliantly rendered. The various hues and tones within the colours are being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows such a brilliant eye for how colour works.
This issue is powerful, poignant and hits home for me, anyways, as we see a whole section of, if not the whole, planet acting a certain way. What the girls learn throughout all this is horrible and all too relevant to the way that the world works to this day. This is some of the most spectacular writing and stellar characterisation wrapped up in these interiors that are perfectly suited to the book. DC needs to keep these creators on this series and expand it to an ongoing monthly because honestly this is unlike any superhero book we’ve seen them do before and there’s plenty of room on the market for it.
