The Flash’s Top 10 Plot Twists
Which one shocked you the most?

Over the The Flash's nine season run, there were a hell of a lot of twists and turns. But we all remember those big ones truly caught us by surprise and made us want to watch the adventures of the scarlet speedster more and more.
Stick with me as we count down my top 10 plot twists from The Flash TV series.
10. Harrison Wells is The Reverse Flash - 1x09

Season One carried on a thread from Barry Allen's first appearance in Arrow a just under a year beforehand; the mystery of Nora Allen's murder.
Barry claimed that the night his mother was murdered, when he was just 11 years old, he saw a man in yellow you was responsible. For the first part of the season his identity was shrouded in mystery. But then in the episode "The Man in Yellow", we we got the answer. Maybe one most of us had been expecting.
Harrison Wells is The Reverse Flash.
It was a big reveal that rounded out the midseason finale and had everyone watching Harrison Wells closer than ever to uncover the true mystery behind his villainous speedster.
Maybe we'll touch more on that later...
9. Devoe takes over Ralph’s body - 4x18

Season Four of The Flash saw the team battling Clifford/Devoe The Thinker and also trying to defend the "bus metas". Individuals who had been turned into metahumans thanks to The Thinker's calculations and Barry Allen returning from the speed force.
The Thinker began a hunt for each meta, taking over each of their bodies in order to amass their abilities. This also meant he had new member of Team Flash, Ralph Dibny/The Elongated Man, in his sights.
Sadly, just as we thought Ralph had turned over a new leaf and looked like he was out of the villain's crosshairs, Team Flash failed and Ralph became Devoe's next victim.
It was a heartbreaking and shocking moment as Barry had to watch as Ralph turned into a villain right before his eyes.
8. Caitlin dies/Killer Frost is unleashed - 3x18

It seemed to be just another villain of the week episode when the guys went up against Abra Kadabra. They took him on. They defeated him. All was well again. But then an injured Caitlin took a turn for the worst just before the credits rolled.
Caitlin began to succumb to her injuries and Cisco and Julian tried to resuscitate her, but with little success. The only thing that could save her from staying flatlined was removing the necklace that was stopping her from transforming her into her evil alter-ego, Killer Frost.
Desperate to save her, Julian ripped it off and the Caitlin's villainous side started to wreak havoc.
At that point in the show, we were never sure if we'd seen the last of Killer Frost or not, but we certainly didn't expect her triumphant return to be the stinger of a pretty normal episode.
7. Jay Garrick/Hunter Zoloman is Zoom - 2x15

Season Two introduced the concept of the multiverse, and with that we met Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-2. The villain of that Earth too; Zoom.
Just like Season One, the mystery centred around who was behind the villain's mask. Although this time around, we waited a bit longer.
Alas, just when we thought we'd seen the last of Jay Garrick after his apparant death at hands of Zoom himself, we got a doozy of a cliffhanger. It turned out Garrick himself was Zoom the entire time.
That moment at the end of "King Shark" loaded us with even more questions that were thankfully answered before the season ended. But what a hell of a delivery.
6. The mystery girl’s identity - 4x23

Throughout Season Four, mystery girl kept popping up here and there. And she seemed to have some level of familiarity with Barry, Iris and the rest of Team Flash.
But it wasn't until the season finale that we got the major reveal before the show's usual Summer hiatus. The mystery female speedster was revealed to be none other than Barry and Iris' future daughter, Nora.
It was definitely something we had on our list of possibilities, but it didn't make the reveal any less shocking by any means. And the season that followed was a real thrill ride.
5. Barry gets framed - 4x09

Season Four had Barry having to take a "brain over brawn" approach in order to defeat Devoe. But that all came to a head in the midseason finale.
Barry was trapped by Devoe and escaped him with the villain seemingly getting into a spot of both. Elsewhere, we had Caitlin trying to save one of the bus metas from Amunet Black, and succeeding. The meta even came to join Team Flash for Christmas.
But it was then in the final scene of the episode that Barry returned home and it was revealed that the bus meta was the first victim of The Thinker's bodysnatching plan.
It all happened very fast as Barry realised what was going on, then finding Devoe's body dead in his and Iris' loft, at the hands of a knife that Barry had handled earlier that day. Before we knew it, the police had Barry looking very guilty as they burst in.
It was a real smart move from Devoe and it was shocking/exciting for fans to know The Trial of The Flash storyline was coming.
4. Nora is working with The Reverse Flash - 5x08

It was fun to mix things up in Season Five with Barry and Iris' future daughter sticking around. But then came the show's 100th episode. Nora joined her father in travelling back in time, and at one point came into contact with Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne/The Reverse Flash.
It was then at the episode of the episode that we learned more about Nora's origins as a speedster and who had been leading her down the path to get to her father. She heads back to the future and goes to her mentor. Locked up in prison. The Reverse Flash himself. Mic drop.
A real shock that we didn't see coming and that we were pretty sure Barry wasn't going to be too happy about when he learned the truth just like us.
3. Barry is Savitar - 3x20

Savitar was our big bad for Season Three, and he was tied to Barry's future and the death of the love of his life, Iris.
But what really came as a shock to the system was when everything clicked for Barry on who Savitar was. When he came face to face with the villain again, we were shocked to see the villain step out of his armour to reveal the charred face of another Barry Allen.
The Flash becoming the villain of his own story? It was always a possibility, but we didn't expect him to be linked to the murder of Iris West of all people. A big shock and one that, as usual, posed a lot more questions for that week long wait we had to endure.
2. Barry saves his mother/creates Flashpoint - 2x23

Across the show's second season, Barry grappled with his decision to not save his mother when he had the chance in the Season One finale.
He eventually came to terms with it, but then Zoom killed his father in the season's penultimate episode. That brought about a big and dangerous decision in the closing moments of Season Two.
Barry travelled back to the night of his mother's murder AGAIN, and saved her from Reverse Flash. This not only erased the version of him that travelled back previously, but also created a completely new timeline.
That's right. Those shocking finale moments set us on the path to the show's version of the famous Flashpoint storyline. It was a big surprise to see Barry go back and had fans excited all Summer for Season Three's adaptation of the comic book storyline.
1. Eobard Thawne becomes Harrison Wells - 1x17

In spot number one we have arguably the biggest shock from the show's entire tenure.
The Season Two episode "Tricksters" unexpectedly opened on giving us The Reverse Flash's point of view from the night he killed Nora Allen. But then afterwards he unmasked himself to reveal someone who looked nothing like the Reverse Flash/Eobard Thawne we knew.
The episode stitched in flashbacks to Thawne's time in the year 2000 thereafter, which revealed how the villain actually stole the identity of scientist Harrison Wells to live in his skin for 15 years as Barry grew up to become The Flash.
This episode really turned the tables on us and shocked us several times as we discovered the lengths Eobard Thawne went to to kick off his long-term plan to create The Flash and work to get himself home.

And that's my biggest plot twists from The Flash! Agree with my choices? Disagree? Let me know your thoughts!
