What if Wicked's Ending Actually Revealed the Truth?
Wicked Endings

Whether the ending is that the "wicked witch" really is dead, she isn't dead and Glinda believes she is, or Glinda knows while she takes on the ruling of Oz, the reason for change in Oz is not fully known amongst the citizens what the full truth really was and Elphaba gets to remain under the guise of twisted tales forever. It gives way to a political message about what we believe we know may not be the full truth. There are many fan fictions and rewritten endings to the tale. I was coming across these while looking into the reasons for the choice of ending. The creation of a tragic tale of a person ostracized by society because others could not see Elphaba for her true motive, and only by the motives that others made up for her.
This has lead me to come think about and see the type of ending that could have happened if the story wanted the citizens of Oz to be able to see the full truth of who the wizard really was and what all exactly happened behind the scenes. I know Elphaba was okay with being villainized for the sake of change, but I have created an alternate ending for Wicked for those wanting a version where she could actually be shown for who she really was:
After Elphaba pretends to be melted and Dorthey presents the broom, the Wizard believes he has won. Glinda knows this to not be true and is waiting to be there with Elphaba to help the the attack from within. She learns specific spells from the grimmerie that will help with what she would need to defeat him with. When the sneak attack goes down, the wizard starts to pull out any machinery made by the people of Oz that makes him look as if he is fighting with magic. Elphaba destroys the machinery to reveal it's inner workings and Glinda explains about how her bubble is not conjured by magic, but a machine made for her to travel a specific way so she could seem magical.
The citizens will have a hard time believing it at first because people do not like what they thought about their entire lives being dismantled. Some may at first believe Glinda to also be a traitor, but the reveal of the machinery and tracks to who worked on the "magic" machines will show he is a fraud. The proof will come forward with the animals coming back to help with telling the story of what really happened in how Elphaba was framed to look a certain negative way for the sake of the wizard's power. The true reasons she turned people around her into a tin man and scarecrow will show to save their lives instead of to randomly be cruel.
The wizard is then pushed back against by the citizens to be taken down as he true "carnie full of blarney" that he really is. Some of the citizens won't fully believe it to be true and they will relocated with the wizard somewhere else into a smaller group, but Oz will ultimately be still taken over by Glinda with Elphaba still able to live within the town she has come to know as home. The new threat will then be the actual wicked wizard with his little group of growing followers. Him at a smaller scale though makes it where his machinery cannot come off as "fantastical" as it once did. He will just be full of a lot of hot air like the balloon he goes off on.

That would make a nice callback to the whole song and dance by the wizard where he claims that people wouldn't believe him if he said he was a fraud. Like, some people may not believe that he is a fraud, but if shown evidence on a grand scale (like the bubble and exposed machinery), may people would.
Great take on the deception and I found this intriguing in Wicked for Good. Reminded me of when I read the book with my Dad as a small boy in the 1960s. When Dorothy arrived at the Emerald City they were given green glasses to wear to make them think the city was emerald green when it wasn’t. Loved Cynthia Erivo in the movie
