The evening sun cast an array of colors across the light blue sky creating amber, pink, and golden hues. Slowly the brilliant light was disappearing behind the coastal line. The watcher sighed with a moment of longing. His brown eyes watched the radiance like it was new to him. The sight is likened to a lover's embrace, slow, unrushed, and beautiful. He knew she was watching her version of the same sunset. He sighed remembering the wife he left with three children under the age of ten, a dog, and a kitty named tripod because it would only walk on three legs, why hell he didn’t know. It was just before five-thirty, but the sun’s final glow had been obscured by a dark grey cloud which had settled just before noon and hadn’t budged since. It was, thus, up to the streetlights to illuminate the comings and goings, and they did so, if only bleakly. Beneath their light, shoes of various styles and sizes bustled in every direction. A pair of quite high and quite bedazzled heels, seemingly undisturbed by the rain-drenched pavement, marched along with a muffled click-clack. They were passed by a pair of sleek black business shoes whose morning shine had since fogged, and whose stride was twice as long. In the opposite direction, a pair of fluro yellow sneakers jogged rhythmically, although not hurriedly accounting for the crowd about them. Nevertheless, they slowed as they approached two pairs of boot-clad feet.

Under the high vaulted ceiling of the extruded entryway a man paced nervously. He looked at his watch, then down the walk from which he came only moments ago. He turned to the building’s heavy oaken doors each framing a single, tall and narrow pane of glass then returned to his watch to repeat the routine. After several minutes of this redundancy, he looked one last time down the walk and resolved to advance on the heavy double doors.
