The sad truth about living in a city ran by the service industry.
dying city

Being that I spent almost my entire life in the city of Las Vegas has been an amazing ride from being a kid to now a 32 year old man. I remember as a kid there was always something to do from going down the strip to the original "Game Works" and watching local bands shredding on the stage to going bowling at castaways and fishing at Lake Mead. Being a kid in Las Vegas was the best. As an adult you grow up seeing the local bars, showgirls, stage shows, casinos, and the fact you can make six figures with no college degree in sin city. You basically had 3 choices as an adult for jobs if you wanted to make the "Big Money"
1. Clubs/venues - being a musician, showgirl, stage hands, Dj and club promoters etc.
2. Adult entertainment- Becoming a male/female stripper and or porn star etc.
3.The service industry/Retail- Working in the casinos, Bartending, Serving, etc.
These are literally the jobs 85% of Las Vegas is built on. Las Vegas is a city for Entertainment and Services. I spent 11 years in the service industry as a chef, bartender and server. The fact that a person can single handily make 3x more money than that of a person who spent 4 years in college is insane and a very sad at the same time. Las Vegas is an amazing city and a trap at the same time, because of the promises it makes for making a butt load of money with zero experience and an form of college for most companies in Las Vegas.
Now the scary picture we are currently facing is Covid. I've watched this sickness destroy Las Vegas since announced. Myself and thousands, I mean thousands have lost their jobs because of the fact we can't be around large numbers. Restaurants/Bars have shut down 100% because of covid. las Vegas had 42.52 million people visit just in 2019, Currently before the year ends Las Vegas has only had 1.537 million. 41 Million less than 2019, now this isn't 100% correct since the year has ended but by this time Las Vegas had triple the numbers visiting before covid happened. This is devastating for the Las Vegas for the simple fact that the city is built of the 3 things I listed above. I have a fear that if things don't change and change soon Las Vegas will eventually become a city of lost riches and opportunities to anyone and everyone who come into the city.
I will also add since the "Las Vegas Raiders" jobs have gone up and businesses have been making money but with the current events where Las Vegas may shut down again and the city will be closed we will not come back from this. Financially the entire city needs a bail out and needs help to come back from this covid sickness. Las Vegas may or may not become the city of empty casinos if it can't recover from this devastating sickness.
