7 Simple Habits for a Happy Day

What would your life be like if you were happy every day? How would your life change if you had more time to do the things you love and less time worrying about all the problems in your life? Most people know that feeling happy every day makes a huge difference in their lives, yet few people have any clue what they can do to feel happier on a regular basis. Luckily, the answer isn’t as complicated as most people make it out to be although you will need to make some changes to your daily habits and mindset if you want lasting happiness.

1) Exercise

Exercise is crucial in maintaining optimal physical and mental health. In fact, most of us could benefit from exercising more than we do. You should aim to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days per week, but even more is better if you can fit it into your schedule. The key is to find an activity that’s fun and easy enough so that you’ll stick with it. For example, walking or jogging outdoors allows you to enjoy nature while getting your heart rate up. If running isn’t your thing, try dancing or swimming instead. The important thing is just finding something that works for you!

2) Drink Water

We often fail to realize that water is essential in keeping us alive. Water keeps our organs functioning, transports nutrients through our bodies, and keeps our skin hydrated. Drinking enough water can help you clear your mind and fight off disease, so drinking at least two liters of H2O every day will go a long way toward making you feel happy every day. It’s easy to forget about how important water is when we’re busy with work or other obligations—but take time out of your day to drink more water, and see how much better you feel!

3) Small Gratitude Ritual

Appreciating something you have (like water or air) is free, easy, and only takes a few seconds. In fact, research has shown that expressing gratitude can significantly increase happiness in your life. So before you crawl into bed tonight, think of three things you’re grateful for. Write them down in your journal (or just keep them to yourself). Doing so may help you sleep better and feel more positive throughout your day tomorrow.

4) Morning Affirmation

The first step toward happy life is to feel happier. So what’s your morning affirmation? It’s a short phrase, sentence, or even a poem that you recite when you wake up in the morning to help give you confidence and encouragement to go on with your day. Today I will say: I am beautiful, my life is beautiful! because Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions. What we do is what we are. Find small ways to make yourself happy every day, and watch how it spreads into other areas of your life.

5) Mindfulness Meditation

Studies show that practicing mindfulness meditation can make you happier. Here’s how to practice it: focus on something, such as your breathing; stay in the moment; and only think about what’s happening right now. Avoid overanalyzing or judging any emotions or thoughts you may be experiencing (such as I shouldn’t be feeling like this). Over time, you should find yourself enjoying life more every day.

7) Start your day with love

A happy life starts with loving yourself. Be positive and understand that nothing in life is perfect, but you can still find happiness every day. Start your day with love by thinking of what you’re grateful for and how far you’ve come. Keep love as your foundation when making decisions, treating others and setting goals. Remember that joy is not an emotion; it’s an active choice to show compassion, gratitude and kindness to those around you.

6) Do good things

It sounds simple, but it’s amazing how many people fail to do something nice for someone else. If you’re having a bad day, there’s no better way to lift your spirits than doing good things for others. This doesn’t have to be anything huge: Just smiling at strangers, complimenting co-workers on their work and offering to help a friend move all count as positive gestures that can boost your mood—and make other people happy too.
