A Slow and Steady Race to the End

A Descent into Chaos

By Brittney MckinneyPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

The end seems like it is already upon us and we just don’t know it yet, with all the events of the year that have happened its no wonder the world is shutting down, a culmination of all the events throughout history shows us that this was going to happen sooner or later. Natural compounded with man-made disasters helped to bring this end on faster than it would have if we had not driven the planet into a spiral of self-destruction. Mixing that with the constant violence of those in a position of power who feel it is their right to act any way they want and shout self-defense or use the excuse of thinking someone was a threat. This constant flow of horror has now reared its ugly head again in all the looting and escalated violence from not just police but citizens alike which only serves to further move the needle into the empty spot. This race to the end of the road is a slow one but a steady one none the less and we as a people will not live long enough to see the climb back from the brink if we continue on this path of destruction and death.

For the first half of the year, it seemed to be one thing after another and with each new disaster the level of destruction was increased; more violence coming from both sides and innocent people getting caught in the middle. Police violence is increasing even more than usual and now with the accessibility of cameras everywhere watching someone get killed can be done in real-time and then shared on someone’s timeline. I have watched for the past few weeks and one after the other a new situation has come up and people flock to show it and pretend that they care about what is going on, a simple share does not mean you care. I have also watched how all the false comradery had made people think that they are apart of something that they are not nor will they ever truly be apart of because of how society works. At the end of the day, coming together for something bigger than all of us is never going to happen because no matter what anyone says or does most people either don’t care or don’t have the knowledge to do what is needed.

Natural disasters seemed like they happened once every 10 or 25 years but now they seem to be happening every month and there is nothing that anybody can do about it because there is no real way to detect these things. Earthquakes, wildfires, and floods seem to be the earth’s way of warning us that things are not going great but we ignored them every time they happened and now we are paying the price for it. The warning signs were all around us but we were so consumed with doing what we wanted that we didn’t realize that we were harming the very thing that we needed to live. The ecosystem is screwed because we as a people did not care how we got our resources as long as we got them; cutting down forests and polluting the ocean; once everything is gone we will all be gone right along with it. We as a planet will not survive if even one little thing is taken out of the ecosystem and we have been told this a few times but we just don’t care anymore because we figure that the next generation will find the solution to the problems that we end up causing.

When things seem to be getting bad most of us can find a way to rise beyond the crazy and just find a silver lining, trying to make a better place for those who are going to be here long after we are no longer a thing on this planet. Although things don’t look very good right now if we did try to come together and make a difference we could do something that would not only great but also serve those who may not have the ability to serve themselves. Let's stop all this foolishness that is going on because it is not helping and will only serve to prove those who think we are the problem right and only perpetuate the vicious cycle.
