My Feelings, My Jurisdiction

Know thyself

By India LappaPublished 6 years ago 2 min read

Have you ever been told that you do not feel a certain way, that you are not in love with the person you say you are in love with, that you do not want to spend money on a dress that you really want to buy or simply that you do not know what you are doing with your own life? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then it is time you learn to step up and say "MY FEELINGS, MY JURISDICTION!"

I have always been a very confident person, always sure of what I want versus what I need (or vice versa), how I feel about a person or a subject. I never really gave too much attention to intentional negative criticism when it comes to making my own decisions. However, even strong metal bends; sometimes, certain people make me doubt my decisions and I find myself asking questions like, "Maybe I am not in love with him?"

Do not let anyone do this to you unless you are sitting in front of a professional Psychologist or Psychiatrist. You should also listen to your parents, they know what they are talking about and they are the only two people in this world who actually do want what's best for you!

Be yourself, be authentic, be unique. Embrace who you are! Be strong minded, be you! Don't get me wrong here, I am not telling you it's okay to go against the world and make your opinion prevail. I am saying do not let the world put you against yourself! Trust yourself and who you are, what you want and what you believe in, and know what you like. All of those things are essential to your persona, your character; they make you who you are.

Practice some self love, tell yourself that the only person who knows how you are feeling is yourself. You are the one going through whatever you are going through and nobody should tell you any different. It is okay for them to help you through your pain and sorrow, or advise you not to spend money when you are short on money, or to be there for you when that special person breaks your heart.

It just isn't okay to tell you that the way you are feeling is wrong. A good friend respects your feelings as your own, they will not try to manipulate your life as though it's theirs to do so.

Always remember and repeat with me: "My feelings, my jurisdiction!"
