“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7
We’ve all heard this scripture many times throughout our lives.
Yet some people feel it isn’t that simple to just ask, seek, and knock.
Perhaps they don’t realize that the treasure of glorious possibilities already lives within them.
Let me share a personal example of how embracing this principle created results beyond anything I could have imagined.
I had just completed a five day seminar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with my mentor, the late Bob Proctor. At the end of those five days, I was fired up and ready to make things happen. I was so prepared for action.
Bob said that if I was serious about building a business in personal development, I would have to knock on cold doors.
At first, the idea felt foreign to me. But I was determined.
One day, I knocked on the door of an insurance company. The owner said he wasn’t interested.
I tried again, same response.
And again, another rejection.
I decided to give it one more shot. The fourth time, the owner opened the door and, in very direct language, told me to hit the road.
I calmly replied, “You need me more than I need you.”
We parted ways.
To my amazement, he called me the very next day and said, “You’re hired.”
So what happened?
Persistence happened.
I refused to give up.
After delivering a four day personal development seminar to his entire team, something shifted.
People began thinking differently.
Acting differently.
Taking initiative.
The company took off and was eventually purchased by a large insurance conglomerate.
Some time later, I ran into one of the team members and asked, “Where’s the CEO these days?”
He smiled and said, “You won’t believe it. He sold the company and now he’s retired, flying his personal plane around the country.”
Unbelievable.
If I had never asked, sought, or knocked, none of it would have materialized.
That’s life.
Step out of your comfort zone, and your life can accelerate into a realm of results you never imagined possible.
No one knows what could have happened with out serious action. We must act and follow through to the best of our ability. Somehow, our prehistoric brain always wants to remain in control and keep us in our comfort zone. It never changes as the dialogue is always the same. "Stay where you are. Don't go there as it might be dangerous. You know better."
However, no one wants to remain stuck and immobilized. We all want to venture out and see what's possible. So, the next time an opportunity arises, go for it. Don't hesitate and don't doubt yourself.
It’s so easy to stay in our comfort zone as anytime we think of leaving it, our Amygdala puts up a stop sign.
When we have enough courage to withstand the amygdala’s pull only then will we succeed.
Success always comes with a price and a reward. The price is our determined and resilient stand and our reward is opportunities that never would have surfaced.
How many times have you tried to push through the concrete wall that says NO?
Everyone has at one time or another.
My example above with the owner of the insurance company proves this clearly.
You can do this.
But you must ask.
You must seek.
You must knock.
Carpe momentum.
Whatever challenge you’re facing, may you rise through it with renewed strength. May you discover that hope was never gone only waiting to be chosen again.
Advance confidently and expect the best, for the best is yet to come.
