Speak Your Mind

Do people ever really say exactly what is on their minds? No. Why? A lot of us would be rocking orange jumpsuits right now. Some things are better left unsaid. I was always told, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Unlike coffee, some of our mouths have no filter.

People just need to speak their minds but if you have something to say about a person, do yourself a favor: go to that person instead of someone close to them or worse, someone that doesn’t know them from Adam's housecat.

I think a lot of times people don’t say what’s on their minds because they know they have a temper, and they dare anyone to push the set-off switch. People used to make the statement “they are really pushing my buttons.” But that has gone out the window. There are quite a few statements that people make now. Either way, it boils down to a set-off switch.

The set-off switch is pressed when your agitation level reaches pissed off to infinity and beyond. People say hold your composure but that’s easier said than done. People are quick to say that as a Christian, you aren’t supposed to have a set-off switch. False statement. I don’t care how saved you proclaim to be, you still have a set-off switch. Some people just hold their composure better.

Speak now or forever hold your peace is something that is heard at weddings. On some things, you can’t hold your peace. In life, you have plenty of time to speak up, so do it Pent-up frustration is not good for your health. Heart attacks and strokes can be prevented by opening your mouth and saying what you have to say.

Don’t take your problems out on people either. This also triggers the set-off switch. We all have problems, no matter if they are big or small. But one thing: if you are the solution to your own problem, how is it a problem? Food for thought. If something is out of your hands, that’s different. But if this is something that has an easy fix, like a simple apology, taking the initiative to solve the problem in some way or trying to solve the issue, then do it. Get off the pity party. Turn off the broken record, get off your behind and do something about it. The only way that the repeated problem is an issue is if it involves the court system. If it doesn’t, get off your behind and fix it.

People that have a mouth with no filter are like that for a reason. I know why. It’s because in their past, they spent so much time trying to hold their composure and be nice to people and it got old. So, now, they just say what they feel, and people get offended. No need to be offended because they are speaking the truth. We can’t be mad at them for it. We just don’t like the way that they say it. Their set-off switch ran out of batteries a long time ago.

Last bit of advice about the set-off switch: don’t put all your hope and trust into a man/woman when you meet them. People have a habit of doing this and sometimes, it backfires. Some people don’t handle rejection well so when you say things don’t work out, you may have “set them off” without even realizing it because in this person's mind, the word no doesn't register.

So, to conclude my story, I want to say this: Anger is like a flickering light, but you own the control switch.
