MY ANNABELLE DREAMS OF ADVENTURE

As many know, I’m a writer at heart — that hasn’t changed. What has evolved are the different roles I’ve taken on, each carrying its own responsibility. One of those roles is serving as a board member for a nonprofit organization. This nonprofit supports a variety of causes, but the focus here is one especially close to my heart: dog rescue.

This piece is for those animals who cannot speak for themselves.

The howl of a dog that is scared out of her mind, but she isn't, she is just deaf. Perhaps the most beautiful Dogo Argentino with the most beautiful eyes you will ever see.

This piece is deeply personal. I’m sharing it not just from the heart, but in hopes of raising awareness about a heartbreaking truth: countless dogs are being euthanized in kill shelters across the United States.

Many of these dogs come from devastating situations, especially those abandoned by illegal breeders who show no empathy. These individuals often dump dogs in remote areas, leaving them to fend for themselves. That reality always breaks my heart.

The dogs left behind are often survivors of abuse, neglect, and violence, shaped by the toxic environments they were raised. Sadly, this leads to stigma — people see aggression, not the pain that caused it. But these animals aren’t inherently dangerous; they’re reacting to trauma they never asked for.

This cycle isn’t fair to the dogs, and it’s not fair to the people, including children, who may be harmed because these animals were never given a chance to heal.
