The Heartwarming Influence of a Cat: My Roommate is a Cat

My Cat is a Roommate: Spoil-free anime review

By animetipzPublished about a year ago 4 min read

After my horror binge, I needed something wholesome to cleanse my mind. Nothing I was currently watching was interesting to me, Which meant I was randomly scrolling again. I came across this title and wanted to check it out and I am in love. Did I start this show at 10 pm and watch it until 1 am yes I did and I loved every second of it.

My Roommate is a Cat

Storyline: The story of Mikazuki Subaru, a novelist who is shy and struggles in relationships with other people, and a cat who was dumped by humans and lived a tough life on the streets. Through a twist of fate, the two of them end up living together. This heartwarming tale illustrates day-to-day life through the eyes of both man and cat. These moments seem trivial, but as they build upon themselves, the two become family and find happiness in their life together.

Info: 12 episodes

Genre: Slice-of-Life, Drama, Comedy

Rated: TV-14

I relate to the main character Subaru, He is a shut-in who just reads and writes all day (My dream life) He has recently lost his parents and was learning how to navigate the world. The cat distribution system gave him Haru and his whole world was changed.

Each of the episodes is split in half, showing the moments of his day and then the moment through the eyes and thoughts of Haru the cat. I love this creativity and it gave me a different perspective on my cat's actions.

I believe no matter how traumatic animal's lives have been they make us better people. We see Haru’s sad life up until she meets Subaru, and I would be lying if I didn’t say it made me cry. Yet she is trying everything she can to make sure Subaru is safe and healthy. Because Haru Subaru is forced to leave his house more, he is semi-forced into new friendships. He ends up pushing himself to try new things and face his fears.

I relate to Subaru a lot in this aspect. I have always had severe social anxiety, it is a struggle to go to the store. However, this all changed when I got my first dog, Max. I had had childhood pets but this was my first dog. I could write a whole blog on how I got him but to summarize he is my match made in heaven and it was fate that brought us together. I went from being alone in my room most days, barely taking care of myself to now having a 160lb Saint Bernard to take care of. I was forced to go on daily walks. We started with the same path every day but it got boring quickly so I’d change it up and take different routes every day. Then people would join me on walks, I’d meet friends at the dog park, or the beach. I knew all the attention went onto Max which caused me to be more comfortable being out. To this day I hardly go anywhere without Max (He is almost 11 years old). I now have 5 rescue dogs and a cat. They are all random sizes, ages, and breeds, and have different pasts. Yet they all manage to bring out the best in me, they make me take care of myself, they give me purpose, and I feel as if it’s my mission in life to save as many animals as possible. It’s a slow change, lots to learn, but I do believe animals bring out the best in us.

Whenever I meet someone who says they aren’t an animal person I just think it’s because they haven’t met THEIR animal yet. This show will show you what happens when you do meet that special companion.

My Review: Is this just an anime about a guy finding a cat? Yes, it is but this anime is one of the most wholesome and heartwarming anime I have ever seen. It is a comedy but be ready to have your heartstrings pulled. It was exactly what I needed after watching horror all month. Whenever I tell people I love 12-episode anime because they are the most heartfelt this is what I mean. We are so used to seeing crazy storylines and bright animation, that sometimes we just need to slow down and see the small joys in everyday life. I hope you take the time to enjoy this show as much as I did. Also if you have a cat you will want to give them more attention while watching, I hugged my cat the whole time.

Have you seen My Roommate is a Cat? Are you a cat person or a dog person?

Manga Wishlist: What Readers Hope to Find in Stores

Hi friends! I need some help. My brother owns a comic book shop and he asked me to make a list of manga he should order. He has only ever seen Demon Slayer and solo leveling, so when it comes to the anime/manga world he is clueless. Lucky for him he has a huge anime fan for a sister.

An Overlooked Film: Mary and The Witches Flower

I came across Mary and the Witch’s Flower while watching all of the Studio Ghibli films. I didn’t understand how it was connected to Studio Ghibli, but it kept appearing. After a little research, I figured out why.

Bye for now!
