A tale of love

One day a young boy stood on the beach,

and looked to the horizon just out of his reach.

He saw something he couldn't believe,

he saw a mermaid jump out of the sea.

She was a beauty like none he'd seen before,

that day he fell in love as he stood on that shore.

She was something he'd never forget,

He watched her swim off into the sunset.

He never saw her again before he moved far away,

there were so many things he never got to say.

The years flew on by and that boy's tale turned tragic,

He gave up on his dreams and stopped believing in magic.

So with his head down he worked his whole life away,

He never forgot that shore and the beautiful mermaid.

He returned to that beach one day on a whim,

He heard a soft voice start to speak behind him.

"There's a story, I don't know if you know,

but a mermaid saw a boy a long time ago.

She came back to this place all of the time,

saying "I want that boy to one day be mine.".

To be with him, she would need to be free,

She went before the god of the sea.

She didn't ask, instead she just begged,

to be free of the ocean, she asked for legs.

"But here you can swim free my child. Tell me why?",

She said "I am in love, and with him I can fly.".

He granted her wish so she could walk on dry land,

She would find that boy, so they could hold hands.

She waited on this beach every day for years,

hoping the boy would finally come back here.

Then the day came she didn't wait anymore,

She found herself standing with that boy on that shore.".

"That's an interesting story, as crazy as it sounds."

The man said as he slowly turned around.

Who he saw before him, much to his surprise,

That mermaid girl was a woman, he never forgot those eyes.

That man became a boy again, his smile was so wide.

He finally had that mermaid standing by his side.

Tears rolled down both of their cheeks,

they waited so long to finally meet.

No one knows for certain what happened that day,

some believe they grew wings and both flew away.

Wherever they went, they went there together,

and their love is something that lives on forever.
