A Definitive Hostile Takeover of ‘The Industry’

When en route to the mall bathing suit shopping, be sure to wear a T-shirt that says...

Dear Pre-Summer Body with attached Post-Winter Worries,

Ipso facto targeted marketing campaigns designed to exploit your areas of disintegration

Seize indecision and vulture-descend en masse over vulnerabilities, i.e. straightforward bathing suit shopping gets clean-pick guzzled with body shame pre-purchase:

Too chubby, too angular. Too scarred or cosmetically altered. Too flabby-too-muscular-big/small-breasted, sun-deprived/sun-darkened/shaved not waxed, etc., etc.

Riotous revolution against corporeal component ownership sans your say-so.

Ass-backwards assault and battery perpetrate pristine thought content that simply wanted to take a swim for chrissake!

Cessation of hostilities now requires your declaration, determination, and disgust at nonverbal commentary that gained auricular entry. *Insert cuss word here_____.*

That ONE thing not up for collective debate: Worthiness or desirability. Okay, two. Ain’t at the beach, lake, watering hole, river, or wading pool for nobody’s critical eyes which should just look 'somefrigginwhere' else.

Ingress of beauty and perfection lies in adolescence survived. Babies birthed. Life after surgery, disease. Formal education meant to end you. Miscarriage. Chronic pain, self-harm, despair, psychosis, and everything else this body done survived.

Omnipotence over all parts you, not to be drawn and quartered by the public at large equals legs strong, belly bellissima, skin aesthetic artistry, hips engaging, breasts heaven-sent divinity viewed through the lens of “Scaled heights of such bliss I don’t need to wear a top—but I do.”

No sand-drawn line kept you outta this existence, so don’t dare get it twisted. Take up as much room as you want to love every bit of all who you are, darling. And politely tell everyone who disagrees to screw themselves.

So many words to learn for me within a compact packaging of an amazing writing. Thank you very much for sharing.

I really love the way you mix corpo-language, internet ads and other forms of familiar media. The result is both familiar and strange. And the impression hits with the same fragmented, yet omnipresent strength of today's beauty standards. I have much to learn here!

  • What a powerful message so perfectly written. Great work as always!!!

Absolutely awesome. It's a rubbish world to be a woman, most of the time. This is excellent.

Another excellent piece!!! Preach! You know what's funny? In the 1980s and 1990s, people didn't care about what they showed on a beach. At least in countries like France. Like many French women, my mother was always barechested. She also loved going to nudist beaches with her boyfriends. I have seen bodies of all shapes and forms. 30 or 40 years later, people have become such prudes! If you don't like nudity, don't go to the beach. That's simple. And keep your judgments for those who care. LOL!
