Flares of choice

History

Dutifully scribed by the victors

Hence my overflowing

Portfolio of secrets

꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷🔥꒷꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷

The burning drive to record

Burdening gory details

The fuel combusting in my veins

Urges fingers to articulate

When they’re swollen and mutilated

Preserving my testimony

Recording every surfacing memory

Becomes my only means of

Combating the darkness enshrouding

My former days

A sacrifice of self-discovery

This self-immolation in ink and

Soul-cleansing imagery

꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷🔥꒷꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷

I don sword and shield

For I declared myself the victor

Despite my disadvantageous position

Drug my own battered remains

From the pits of filth and despair

I picked the lock and flew from the cage

Deceit confined me to

For daring to question life’s cruelty

Fled without so much as a

Rearward glance

꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷🔥꒷꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷

I’ll not let my light go out

Without a fight to the last

Truth splattered word

Stanza by stanza

I cut away the bonds restraining my

Soul’s skyward motion

Gathering speed

Gaining momentum

I let myself go

꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷🔥꒷꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷

Free-falling

I dive headfirst

Past the fortified battlements

Into acceptance

Fire, burning in

Oil-borne flames of triumph

Spreading as I splash down

Ultimate goal achieved

꒷꒦꒦꒷꒦꒷🔥꒷꒦꒷꒦꒦꒷

My words, burning in

Space and time

Will live on

Inciting intense sensation

Long after my

Physical energy subsides

This was so stunning, my goodness! I love the fierceness and viscerality (not a word, but you get my point!) of it all.

"Drug my own battered remains From the pits of filth and despair I picked the lock and flew from the cage Deceit confined me to" This feels so empowering and is an inspiration to empower myself more. Congratulations on your top story, KB!🥳🔥

Your mastery of metaphors and cadence makes this poem unforgettable. The way you framed fire as both destroyer and healer is simply brilliant.

History is told by the victors—but what of those who tell their own history, does that make them the victor? What an amazingly blazing poem! Congrats on the Top Story.

  • This was so freaking powerful! Loved it so much!

Whoa, this one’s pure fire! You turned pain into poetry and made it look effortless. Those flame dividers? chef’s kiss. total vibe.✨

This is the poem version of that gif where the paper bursts into flames while the guy is writing on it. ✍️🔥 Such a cool concept, words as legacy and as fire. I dig it.
