A Normal Day

'Begin and end your story with the same sentence.'

By Anna MillerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

It was just your normal day.

The sky was a stunningly clear blue,

Not a cloud in sight.

The breeze was a comforting caress,

Gently brushing through the tree tops.

The view from the top of the building was beautiful.

The garden in the square below was in full bloom,

Full of vibrant colors.

He looked out at the ceremony taking place,

And focused his gaze through the scope.

The man he had studied for weeks,

-Memorizing schedules, times and dates-

Came into view between the cross hairs.

He takes a deep, calming breath

As he leans over the rifle with one eye closed,

His finger hovering on the trigger... waiting.

A lone shot rang out and the target dropped to the ground,

A perfectly round bullet hole in his forehead.

Then the screaming started,

Echoing above the square.

The wind carrying the wails of panic to him,

Like a sweet symphony as he packed up his gear.

Police sirens becoming louder as they arrived on scene.

He slipped out of the building unnoticed,

Leisurely strolling in the opposite direction of the chaos,

Whistling an upbeat tune as he went.

It was just your normal day.
