If only I had been paying attention,

I would have realized you only had ill intentions,

But you had a perfect disguise.

You were a friend to me,

But you were also ever so calculating.

When, Where, & How

To use me and further your agenda

To do everything better than me.

Still, your performance was ever so captivating.

Acting excited when I tell you about all my great accomplishments.

Never saying congratulations,

But the first one to question my abilities and where I was headed,

Come to think of it, everything you did was premeditated.

So you already knew I would be left devastated,

To realize this friendship was always one-sided.

Support & Triumph were all for you.

It was always What can I do for you,

But never once did you do for me.

Still, everyone had their part to play,

And my stupidity was left on display.

If only friendships came with a script,

Then I could come fully equipped.

Seeing through your lies,

And the foreshadowing of your betrayal,

Ready for every secret you would use against me.

Sadly, it could never be.

No matter how many times I pressed replay,

I couldn't change the way you behaved.

Your character was flawed and full of deceit,

I think it is time for a different cast,

To clean house and close the curtain,

To stop letting you drag me through the same old season.

That would only have me experience yet another burden,

And weigh me down because you're a toxic person.

So let's take a bow,

So the curtain can finally come to a closing,

And I can start a new season filled with mutuality

And a place where I'm always celebrated and chosen.
