A Tapered Truth

A breakup "nonet" love poem

Loving you was writing a nonet:

a tapered truth. There was only

so much I could do. It was

asking: β€œdo I like this

creation? What I’ve

become?” Toil just

to unlove,

brace, and

lose.

Author's Note: This poem was inspired by the fact that I am a free-form poet by my truest nature, and these syllable restrictions frustrate me to no end, lol. In fact, I often read my nonets back and hate them. Sometimes, I even feel embarrassed to have posted certain ones, because I'll re-read them a few days later (with a fresh outlook) and realize that my rhymes don't flow as well as I could have made them without the tapering line restraints.

Regardless, I'm still addicted to this challenge. πŸ˜… It's kinda unhealthy, to be honest. 🀭

Tapering lines. Tapering love. Well done. And yeah, I get the addiction thing with writing them.

The β€œtapered truth” phrase is an apt one! Love how this touched on the sentimentality in the writing process.

  • Always in a nonet, I feel the final lines beautiful. Same here.

  • Omgggg, that question, do I like this creation, what I've become. That hit me so hard because I'm now a product of people leaving me. I'm not sure if I like what I've become but now it's got me thinking. Loved your Nonet!

  • Nice and also refreshing in style, somehow breaking the nonet boundaries 😊πŸ₯°

  • I like this. It portrays the frustration of being forced into a format restricting your creativity. Good job.
