Am I always to be
Weighed, measured
Found wanting
Admonished for
The amount of time
I need to move
From one state
To another
No one asks the tree
Why do you grow?
This tree sticks out
Conspicuous
Shaped by twists and turns
That would spin you dizzy
Grafted from two roots
No species
To call my own
An oddity to pity
Too soft
Too gentle
Too caring
I know the world is harsh
I have seen death
Held immeasurable grief
Wounds do not always heal
But they do facilitate
Unfathomable compassion
Grace for others
These convoluted thoughts
In my possession
Sometimes serve me well
Could you display
Any soft words
Loving kindness
Unconditional love
For my peculiar nature
Biblical teachings
I have yet to see
Years of my life spent
Reading scripture
Shaping it into something
Possible to believe in
Everything burned away
Purged in the fire
Bite of the fruit of knowledge
Disfellowshipped
From ignorance
And fear
See my abstract mind
In the way I jump
From one place to another
Frustrating everyone
Who desires order
I may put on
Faces and demeanours
Matching, mirroring
I cannot hold my breath
For too long
Stay a while
Sit with me
I will exasperate you too

Real and honest. Thanks for sharing!
Don't worry, Marie, I don't think you could ever exasperate anyone, at least not anyone with sense, haha. And I adore the line: "No one asks the tree Why do you grow?" Relevant for a lot of us, I feel. Love the little revamp of your profile, too. If you'd rather I call you Aspen, then no worries there. :D
"I have seen death Held immeasurable grief Wounds do not always heal But they do facilitate Unfathomable compassion Grace for others" Omgggg this was soooo freaking true and relatable. Loved your poem!
