hold it in all day

under forced smiles

and "i'm fines,"

because that's what you're supposed to do.

it's not professional to cry at work you know.

under a white line fever,

somehow make it home,

walk inside,

and leave a trail to your sanctuary.

close the door,

lean against it,

and slowly slide down,

much like the tears down your face

until you are sitting in the shallow end

of your devastation.

now at this point,

you have a few choices:

remain in the slowly growing flood,

even as it gets harder to breathe,

or,

start tossing the room,

throwing things,

and screaming at imaginary ghosts,

or,

both.

whatever you choose,

don't stay there long
