Multiple choice is the best kind of test

So let us see you shrug your shoulders

I have a question for you, and it is cold:

What is the truth about soldiers?

We think they are the people of war

They have the uniform, after all

But the battle is never about guns

Most of the fight is at the mall

At what point do people cease making war,

Because it is the war that makes the people?

Regret is the scar that fear leaves behind

It was money that built the steeple.

Violence is a god of many faces

Its uniform is a tie and a suit

Ink can be a devastating red

Taste the afterlife of fruit

Fear has a smile of bone

The skeleton still has a heart

Sharpen your spear, hunt for work

Only in a world of fear can war be an art!

There are other kinds of tests

Results are too often vaunted

For though we all have our ghosts,

Not all of us are haunted.

Shed the uniform, stay a soldier

Doubt was the first cancer

Surrender is the only death

Now hurry, let’s have your answer
