As the crow flies

Stream of Consciousness poem for Unfiltered Challenge

By Paul StewartPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

by feather flight, of chance delight

/a meta in my madness/

my frac-tured sight, at warm candlelight

a horseness in my...

a passage of rite, oh hallowed site

gladness? maybe,

kindness surely

as I look out, as far as the crow flies

I see the semblance of being

Ace in the pack,

something I've never been

perhaps the Joker, or one

the Lesser

never a King, Queen or Jack

always a (pawn)

I like the thimble, though

the dog or car makes more

sense...but it's just a game

like-life, in many ways

of course, coarse

coarseness, whatness?

d r y tongue, cough

un-digested re-gret

stale biscuit

soak-ed the sweat

I approach the floor

on bent knee

I never do this

address the past/passed

solemn and contrite

do the obeisance/seance

light a candle

pour the amber

b u r n my

d r y cough with peat

stand up

and face it all

with tear-filled eyes

punch-ed gut and

/strick/-en thighs

as I look out

as the crow flies

I thought of you as soon as I saw the unfiltered challenge! Stream of Conciousness is made for you. You are so clever with your poetry, idk how you do it. 'stand up and face it all with tear-filled eyes punch-ed gut' That is so good and raw and powerful. I love it.

Lots of excellent lines and sequences in this! Really liked “light a candle pour the amber” Great use of all Poppy’s words too!

Quite a lot of 'thinking' went into this one. Great idea and work.

Had some thoughts did we?? I loved this Paul, the wandering through your thoughts and way you took us on a journey with you... I hope you get airmails with the way your mind flies! 😜

Well done! These streaming ones are going be fun. Although good luck following along when I start babbling.

Interesting to take some of the cues from Poppy's Prompt and run (fly?) with them for this challenge. Well done, sir!

Is the title as the crow flies intentionally ironic? The wandering of the mind in true streams of consciousness is never the shortest distance between two points. It is the very definition of the scenic route with lots of false starts and stops. You are a natural contender for this challenge, Paul. You have written many stunning poems in this style. I recommend submitting them all!

Loved this, friend! Some lines that really stood out to me: "something I've never been perhaps the Joker, or one the Lesser never a King, Queen or Jack always a (pawn)" I think so many of us can relate to this. You are the Stream of Consciousness King!

Great mixture of the prompts. Really caught the atmosphere.

Come on you can get more chaotic than that!! Jokes. I still don’t know what is going on but there’s some great rhythm in here Paul!! How are you? I’m confused by their irregular punctuation statement in the challenge. What does that look like? Have you entered some of your older pieces yet? I’m going to, I think.. but I’m wondering would they sound too planned as the ones I had in mind weren’t. What do you think?

I felt free reading this Paul. Not sure where to go with my poem, so this helps a lot. 😁🤣smiley faces to your creativity.

  • Oooo, I learned a new word from you today, obeisance! Loved your poem! 🍩🥐
