I am a poet, and believe me, I know it

I can't stop speaking in verse

It really is a fucking curse.

I am a poet, and believe me, I know it

It's hard not to show it

To describe with rhyme

In every single line

Why I like to write.

I am a poet, and believe me, I know it

I'm dorky and weird

I write and shed tears

I write about the wasted years

The pain inside my eyes

All of the spoon-fed lies...

I am a poet, and believe me, I know it

With every word I grow and grow

Into a poet that maybe you'll know

One day you will say, "hey! I know her!"

I remember when she said she was a poet

She said "believe me, I know it"

I guess you figured out that day

That everything I write, everything I say

Is a poetic kiss, a sweet and tender hug

I give you my poetry like I give you my love;

Knowingly, beautifully, verbosely, and mostly---

I am a poet, and believe me I know it

Because I'm not AFRAID to show it.

Not now, not ever---

This poem, my friend, will live on forever.
