You once were brave and opened up your heart to let love in
That love however, broke your heart and took it for a spin
You promised then you’d never give such access to your heart
Kept now behind a citadel, the ultimate rampart
What good is an investment if the dividend is pain
What currency is love when all the taxes limit gain
How hopeless is the prospect of a future on your own
How pitiful those movie nights completely all alone
If bitterness is poison and it only poisons you
Then bitterness against your heart is poison to you too
Despite becoming cynical, despite becoming cold
Love is a commodity that lives forever bold
But fate has whittled embers on a spark you’ve finally felt
It seems that spark was kindled so a frozen heart would melt
Now fields of trusting petals bloom as flames begin to dance
You’ve met someone a “voice” is saying, “Take another chance”
It’s cowardice that waltzes to the melody of fear
But courage is what’s summoned up when confidence draws near
It’s courage yes, that took a chance on romance way back when
Brave though, is having the guts to take a chance again
