It's National Brownie Day, and we pay tribute to this favoured dessert with an Epulaeryu.
Warmth that soothes, a heart that aches.

Steam ascends from hot chocolate,
Warmth that floods the tongue.
Brown bites, gracing the sides.
Wrap it like a blanket.

Moist, brownish squares
Soft sponges press the swift tongue,
That embracing warmth,
A soft blanket for the soul.

An epulaeryu is a short, Japanese poem that celebrates the sensory experience of our favourite foods. It focuses on a particular food and its taste, texture, aroma, and temperature. The poet often weaves a personal experience.
