Calls of the Winter Gleam

Mt Rainier

Majestic mountain

beckons in the sun, a hypnotic call,

a gleaming vision that enthralls hikers and skiers

Its slopes has secrets no one knows

Over 400 died in the dangerous divides

Hazardous rescues, some with good results, yet

many never leave its slopes.

Ghosts in the valleys, rivers and rocks,

or buried in ice crevasses

frozen bodies or river bed bones

Beautiful and dangerous. People who climb mountains in treacherous conditions definitely have a different psychological makeup. When I was leaving for Georgia, a female climber got stranded on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan and died. And of course Everest has thousands of them.

Good job on sharing the good and the bad on mountain climbing in a most poetic way.

I'm ok to just look and stare with awe and wonder. I admire the brave souls who dare the beast. Life is adventure, some braver than most. Stunning pics, breathtaking view.

  • beautiful and devastating

  • Oh no, that's so sad. Were those two bodies identified? Loved your poem and photo!
