Captive

And Captivated

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 5 days ago Updated 5 days ago 1 min read

like a moth to a flame

I crave the fire you give

when you whisper my name

I linger there, on your lips

captivated yet free, I idly indulge

in the warmth of your fire

magnetically pulled

to the embers on the pyre

though the danger may singe

I will withstand the damage

while others may cringe

the blaze snaps as my anthem

the room commences to vibrate

in the thrill of it all

as the onlookers jirate

with the shadows on the wall

I will cling to your mouth

to absorb the fluids you spatter

quenching my drought

until the moment I scatter

escaping control

soaring into the night

a soldier at war

awaiting first flight

Beautiful! I wasn't sure how to approach this challenge. Reading other's poems doesn't seem to help. Guess I'll come up with SOMETHING. 💜
