Chocolate Covered Foreboding

Musings of Neglectfulness

By Alexandra GrantPublished about 21 hours ago 1 min read

a woman’s heart awaits

a single day each year

her mind and heart filled

with romance, hopes, and dreams

but her lover is forgetful

priorities elsewhere

believing he will have time

finding a token of his love

both share expectations

but one’s is not the other’s

hers, a gesture of love’s depth

his, a depth of love needing no gesture

misaligned expectations

two broken hearts and souls

covered in failure and sting

where now resides a bitter pain

walls rising from the aftermath

a cold shard pierced each heart

will love endure the spreading chill

in slighted affirmation

do sweet confections relate

feelings of deep rooted love

or careless lack of thoughtfulness

careless procrastination

heart shaped box of chocolates

truly don’t testify of love

as hasty devotion, witnesses

to future neglect and woe
