Way back when my cheeks were chubby and pink,

magic had power and Christmas looked white,

I liked to look for the first star to wink.

~

Glued to the window, I strived not to blink

while scanning the evening still far too bright,

way back when my cheeks were chubby and pink.

~

Early darkness would spread like spilled black ink,

the afternoon giving way to the night.

I liked to look for the first star to wink.

~

On Christmas Eve, the evening sky’s first blink

meant the supper could start the night’s delight

way back when my cheeks were chubby and pink.

~

Twelve dishes (if you count the fizzy drink)

were Tradition, as was the snowball fight.

I liked to look for the first star to wink.

~

After that, gifts were opened and glasses clinked,

our house smelled of spices, the tree shone bright.

Way back when my cheeks were chubby and pink,

I liked to look for the first star to wink.

I have never succeeded in writing a poem in this form. Maybe 2025 will be the year I manage it! Really impressed by this. I love the lines you chose to repeat.

12 dish dinner, Ukrainian? This is such a lovely poem that brought me back to my childhood Christmas's we shared with family and friends. A piece of me felt so happy reading this.

Oh, this is so nostalgically lovely. Childhood days of innocence. Why do we outgrow the wonder.
