Though dad may not have known his second 'son' was his daughter
He did pass on knowledge before he passed, to the next generation
For many years I thought this a secret thing known only to us
Helps to settle an upset stomach my father always said as he drank
One would not think that coke and milk would mix well together
But do not rush to judge before trying this strange elixir of ours
I cannot swear it works for ills of the belly, but those of the heart, yes
The taste is indeed something I came to love, each sip reminds me of dad
Was not here yesterday, or today the anniversary, won't be tomorrow
So many of lifeโs moments absent and gone, many still to come missed too
So on this day โฆ the day we lost my dad, the day I lost my protector
I make time to enjoy a glass, each year in his memory, drink a coke & milk
Pour the fizzy first, then top with full cream white for best results and taste
Enjoy quickly though, else risk potential that liquid tradition will curdle
But for that brief moment on that day each year, for just the briefest breath
I feel connected, close to dad again, his daughter with โourโ drink in hand

Oh gosh, this hit me right in the heart. We just lost my mom about a month ago and those feelings of remembering and honoring are very real. Love how you captured it in this piece!
