theory

lavender, mint, a trace of pink and suddenly everything d i s s o l v e d between us

dissolved until only the black of ink was all that remained on a pristine page

until your mint was nothing more than an aftertaste

bitter and cruel in a way lavender had never known mint to be

never until pink

lavender and mint worked best in a warm tea on a cold blue day

with mint nearby, lavender's red folded onto itself

bruised yet patient in the spaces between

with lavender close, mint softened into shadows

and edges blurred where light refused to meet

together they t u g g e d and p u l l e d

and t u g g e d and p u l l e d

and t u g g e d and p u l l e d

until finally, they

b a l a n c e d

…for a while at least…

and then came rose

one week after pink, rose made herself known

full of soft gentle promises and stories untold

immediately loved - impossible to hold

and lavender’s heart b r o k e all over again

this time, the agony drenched in the sweet, suffocating honey of

‘What If?’

heartbreak
